The Congress of Vienna was a seies of meetings in 1814 and 1815. It was an attempt to turn back the clock to a time of peace before the French Revolution and the rule and wars of Napoleon. The representatives pf the victorious Quadruple Alliance- Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Great Britain restored many European kings and princes that had been forced from power by Napoleon and the previous French Revolution (1789-1799). The restored rulers included the monarchs of Spain and southern Italy and some of the German states. Prussia received German territories that bordered eastern France. The Bourbon monarchy was restored in France. Austria and Russia regained control of parts of Poland. Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg were joined together as one country. Austria gained territory in northern Italy. Yes the Congress of Vienna did achieve its aims. The decisions of the Congress of Vienna are credited with helping avoid any major European war for many decades by creating a balance of power in Europe and not treating France too harshly. However the big failure of the Congress was that it ignored the strong democratic and nationalistic sentiments of many Europeans. Eventually there were democratic revolutions in several nations in 1830 and 1848. I hope that this has been a help to you.
