Are SL seniors doing the right thing?
Everyone in SL fed up with the way SL players are playing right now and put the blame directly on young SL players as they haven't contributed for SL's success apart from 2 fifties from Thirimanna and Mathews since CT.
I too was worried about SL young players.
But looking at the big picture i realized that our seniors need to take some actions in order to give youngsters some confident.
If you take teams like India,Pakisthan, all their young players play at the top and players like MSD,Misbah comes at the end and absorb pressure if there is any or finish the game.Players like Mahela is adaptable to those situations. Playing as a opener(specially when whole middle and lower middle order filled with youngsters) doesn't make any sense.
So i think if SL can resolve out the opening position (by bring in specialist batter like Kusal to open and leave out Jeewan) Mahela should bat at no 6 after Mathews before Thiri. And Sanga at no 4,after Chandimal at no3.Its true that your best player should bat at no 3.But looking at future and given the experience that Sanga poses SL still can player our best batter Sanga in no 4.
Remember before every tournament SL's bowling get all the analysis from reviewers and say its too weak. But if you take history it's SL's batting that led down SL more occasions(Well may be not against India, ;)

SL team has got a lot of potential to overcome any match situations. But the fact that nothing has gone there way in crucial times. The Indian team was also under same situation during the last CB TRI-SERIES where even when India went on to won the last match against SL did not qualify for finals.
But thereafter few crucial changes benefited them. SL need to pick themselves up and see that youngsters like Senanayake are given ample outings in overseas. The rotation policy is good when team is under performing and to raise the bar for the bench warmers.
Senior players are a vital cog to the success as they bring the experience.Youngsters need to be groomed around the senior bunch of players.
SL need to find a good all-rounder like a Ravinder Jadeja who can bowl tidy overs and can chip in with some powerful hits during the slog overs. So Mahela @ 6 is not that favourable, as you need good hitters and who can clear the ropes.

I think the real problem SL faces right now is the poor team combination. Seemingly they make too many changes too often in the batting order and also in the team. I mean why did the pick useless Tharanga for current series? They could have easily given another opportunity to talented Kusal in this non important series.
No I don't think Mahela should go to number 6. It will renew the problems.
The problem SL youngsters have now is that most of them are out of form. And also perhaps they are still learning. It will take some time for them to settle down in long run. Do you know that Kumar Sangakkara also failed for something like 3-4 years consecutively as a batsman since his debut. He had a miserable 2003 world cup. So as Jayawardhane who struggled as a vice captain for quite sometime searching for his form. Mahela was a huge flop in 2003 WC. But see where they stand now? They've turned in to 2 legendary players and have scored heaps of runs in 2007 & 2011 world cups plus they become 2 of the most successful leaders for Sri Lanka. This is how we should prepare our youngsters. Give them more time and opportunities. They will shine someday.
Feel pity for Mathews but he's still learning.... We know he has potential. So better keep him motivated rather than asking him to step down and put more pressure on the guy. There is no need to give the captaincy back to Mahela or Sanga bcz they won't play forever.

Comparisons with India are not fair. The young Indians who play at the top order have at least 5,000 runs under their belt in domestic matches. The same may not be true for SL. Sure, they have the talent but they lack the execution. I thought Chandimal would be the future of SL cricket but what I have seen from him lately is no short of dismal.
The problem with SL is they have titbits kind of players, like Ravindra Jadeja was initially for India. Their players need to choose a proper line and work towards achieving that objective. I am not sure whether players like Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera and even Angelo Mathews could be termed as a batsman or a bowler.
These newer players lack the flair that someone like Jayawardena, Sangakkara or Dilshan commands.
Now, I must say that the future really looks grim.

Mahela and sanga should not come one after the other .
If mahela opens with youngter , sanga should not come at 3 . He should be at 4 ot 5 bcoz too many seniors on top , if they fail lower order youngsters get pressure and fail to perform .
