What would cause my 2002 Saturn 1.9 engine to miss on number 1 cylinder ?

I replaced spark plugs and wires and there was no evidence of any fouled plugs no oil on plugs. no miss at 1400 rpm, at least doesnt sound like a miss revs up fine. misses at 1000 rpm and lower.

Unfortunately, the only model 2002 Saturn with a 1.9 liter motor has two different ingines one is a single overhead cam while the other is a double overhead cam.

In either case I would remove and clean the *idle air control valve and idle speed control solenoid inside the throttle body. It really sounds as if you may have a vacuum line leak right in front of the idle air control valve. When was the last time that the fuel filter was changed?

Have you done a compression test and cylinder leak-down test on #1. cylinder yet?

You could have a dead plug. There is a resistor wire inside that could have burned out and the plug would look perfectly fine. It could be a coil if it is COP ignition. More then likely, it is a clogged or bad injector or a wire to the injector. You can get a "noid light" tester to check you wire. Try putting some Redline Fuel System Cleaner in a tank of gas and seeing what happens

Missing could be caused by a few things such as Low Compression (rings which those engines are notorious for having crappy ones), ignition system (since you replaced plugs/wires maybe its a coil pack or igntion module) Crankshaft/Camshaft position sensors, Sticky fuel injector (try fuel system cleaner) or just a air/fuel ratio problem (check for codes)
