How to get fleas out of an apartment?

I had a cat up until about 2 weeks ago, and we always had frontline on him. I never had any problem, and we gave the cat to a good home about 2 weeks ago... Now, out of no where, I am getting bitten by fleas! They are like, attacking me, even biting me through my socks... It's crazy! I have no idea where these little buggers came from, and I have no Idea how to get them out... I have no other pets, by the way... So will they eventually die off? Is there some type of home remedy to get rid of them? I've been vacuuming and cleaning everything to get rid of them. I've even gone as far as to vacuum my mattress. Please help me, I am NOT a dirty person, and this whole thing is really upsetting. I just want these filthy bugs GONE.

First of all do you have children, or even you...when you go out in the grass and come back in...they are on your clothes and come in with you. get borax and baking soda, mix equal parts and sprinkle everything with this mixture. wait for at least 30 minutes and vacuum, empty the vacuum bag and put it outside and you'll have to do this over and over for months as fleas lay eggs and when the eggs hatch the infestation starts all over again wash any flooring with vinegar with lemon in it the vinegar will kill the fleas and the lemon will help repel them. Wash all clothing and bedding, curtains and all. If you want them out of your part of the yard, sprinkle the borax/soda mixture in the yard and use a rake to work it in, the fleas will die but to keep them from coming back, plant garlic and rosemary around the perimeter of the yard this helps keep the out as they don't like garlic or rosemary.
