Do atheist have a different understanding of love then Christians?

I read the Bible and find a God of love, mercy and grace. But it seems many atheist find this same God of the Bible as having none of these attributes. Do atheist have a different idea of love than Christians?

No, but apparently our reading comprehension skills far surpass yours.

Haven't read the whole Bible, have you?

    What 'love, mercy and grace'?

If you feel that is any of those, then Yes, I have a different definition for all of those terms...

For instance, if I had the claimed powers of your 'loving' god, there would be no starvation in the world.. among a great number of other things...

    IMHO

A different view of love? Well, if you're idea of a loving god that wants to torture people for an eternity, murders people because a census was taken, approves of racial genocide( Deuteronomy 2:34, 1 Samuel 15:2-3, Joshua 6:21), and most importantly drowns the whole world for reasons that aren't clearly laid out, then, yes, our definition of love are different.

Yes. Atheists have a different understanding of the universe and everything in it than Christians.

    I think so.

Christian love with their God reminds me of abused children with PSTD and Stockholm Syndrome.

My idea when you have a loving relationship with someone is that it's given freely, not demanded; it's filled with mutual respect and trust; and even when you're mad or disappointed in each other, you don't eternally torture each other.

idk how do you find love in the bible. It's pretty disturbing to see that the god in the bible kills innocent being, Egypts 1st born, he killed all the egyptian army rather than the punishing/getting the pharoah who enslave the jews (There's no record of jews working as slave back then in egypt) and many other incidents. Did you read what you want to read only?or did you read the whole bible?

    No.

Apparently, though, we simply read the whole bible, and not cherry-picked parts.

"I read the bible and find a God of love, mercy, and grace."

"The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and wrath. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and furiously destroys his enemies!" - Nahum 1

Guess you never read that part, or the hundreds like it, huh? Or you just ignored them?

No, we just read the whole Bible. What kind of loving God kills innocent people? What loving God condones slavery?

We believe in the love of real people, not imaginary beings.

Quite possibly it is different. My concept of love does not include drowning children, because I am pissed at their parents.

You're either stupid, or you didn't read the bible and you're just bsing us. I read the bible, I know the bible and for you guys to talk as if it's flowers and rainbows is absurd.
