Would it be appropriate for me to wear a cross necklace?
This is more of a religious questions than a fashion question, by far.
Please do not judge me if my beliefs greatly differ from yours. Hateful answers will be reported to Yahoo! Answers.
However, I'm just questioning myself on whether it'd be appropriate for me to even wear a cross... because I have several differences in my beliefs than as to what is taught in the Catholic and other forms of Christian beliefs.
1. I don't believe that Mary is a Virgin. Yes, I know that the main belief is the immaculate conception. However, I quite honestly don't see how it's even possible. I do believe though that Mary herself was a good person.
2. I believe that Jesus was resurrected on Easter, and that he sacrificed himself for us but because he believed in what he was told, and that he sacrificed himself to help bring followers to the religion, and die as a Martyr. However, I don't see that as negative or attention seeking.
3. I believe in the reincarnation of souls. The familiarity around people I believe has to be explained for a reason.
4. I believe in Jesus Christ, God, and Mary, the mother of Christ. I also believe in the Holy Spirit (Ghost) and the gifts that are brought when one goes through Confirmation.
5. I believe in waiting to have sex until marriage.
6. I do not believe that birth control is a sin. I feel that because society is changing so much, it's better to be protected and only create a new life when it is the right time. Even in marriage, I feel birth control is appropriate when a couple doesn't want children at a certain time.
7. I believe in the 10 Commandments, and that they should be followed, and be used as a guide throughout life.
8. I believe in Heaven, Hell and that the way you live life will affect how you move into the next life, or where you go.
Maybe I'm more spiritual than religious, I'm not really 100% sure. But, would it be considering wrong or inappropriate for me to wear a cross? Or is the fact that I believe in God enough for me to rightfully wear a cross?
Thank you for any help, as well as for not judging me. I'm just trying to figure out where I stand.

Dear Friend,
The word Christian in the Greek means, "Christ" and the suffix "ian" means...like. Christ-like. Therefore, anyone who professes to be a Christian, demonstrates who they are in Christ by their...lifestyle. Like Christ.
There are a lot of people who wear crosses. I don't wear crosses, have crosses in my house, no fish emblems on my car. Why? Because God "knows" who I am in Him. I don't have to advertise my relationship with God. People know me by my ...lifestyle. Like Christ. Who we are on the inside out ..not the outside in.
And in all honesty dear one, it doesn't matter what you believe. If it doesn't line up with the Word of God, it doesn't count. God's Word is not a luncheon buffet saying things like, "Oh that looks good, I think I'll have some of that , but don't give me that other stuff over there." God examines our heart. Our motive and intent. He knows ...who are His and who are not.
Christian's are to believe in the "totality" of the Word of God. It is all, or nothing. We are either sold out to Christ, or we aren't. There is no such thing as straddling the fence.

I light of some of your beliefs you mentioned I think you should get into God's word more. That should be your first priority before deciding on whether to wear a cross or not. Research what you believe and more importantly WHY you believe it. Don't believe man on spiritual things, believe and seek GOD!

If you were completely certain and comfortable with this idea, you would have no hesitation; you would simply wear the cross and regard it as a piece of pretty jewelry. Since you aren't completely certain and comfortable, don't wear the cross.

I'm not Christian, but I would find it entirely reasonable for you to wear a cross. You sound like a Christian to me indeed.
Even if you didn't believe in the Christian God, I wouldn't look down at you for wearing a cross. But your views make it seem as if you are a Christian, though perhaps not as strict as some, and not Catholic.
If you want to wear the cross, then wear it, by all means. :)

The cross is not the sign of Christianity. The cross is place of defeat, agony and death. The resurrection was the sign of victory. Today, the cross has become an idol. People wear them, they put them in their homes, their car. True Christianity is not a religion, and definitely not a symbol to be worn or looked at, but a relationship with God.

I skimmed over your posting and the general gist sounds like one of the many variations of christianity to me. More importantly, if you identify as a Christian then go ahead and wear a cross. There are so many versions of christianity who is to day which exact details are the 'right' ones.

If you want to wear a cross then wear it...why are you even concerned with what other people may think?

1. "Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: ..." (Matthew 1:18-25)
Sooo... You believe 2 things. First, you believe God is a liar since his Word does not speak the truth. Second, you believe an all-powerful God cannot place an embyo in a woman's womb. Hmm.
3. Do you believe in the authority of the Bible?
6. It is better for women to be protected by forbidding contraception and thus stopping woman being turned into sex objects by men. Women should be completely safe and natural.

It sounds to me that your basic beliefs are the core beliefs of Christianity, so you should have no problems wearing a cross.
