Not getting 8gb of ram?!?

I have 2 4gb ram chips and they are plugged into the 2 alternate slots, both of the blue but when I check task manager it says 1.89gb usage = 64%

Update:

They are the same ram chips from a package i bought, I have an Asus P8-Z77-V motherboard, the speed is 1600 mhz

Update 2:

Just checked System information and it says 8.00gb of Memory (3.46gb usable)????

Read your motherboard's manual. Each motherboard has a specific slot of RAM to go into for duel channel. Check if it's pushed down enough and the connections made. Make sure the clips are down when you push the RAM in. Worst things worst might be a faulty stick or slot.

What is your operating system?? 32bit or 64bit?

Check to make sure correct slots. Also the RAM speed might not be supported or wrong type of RAM u dont know the mobi but older ones have ddr2 not ddr3. Its weird that only 3 gigs of RAM are being registered

Your OS is 32bit. Install 64bit OS to see the difference.

32bit OS only use 3.4GB (maximum limit) memory.
