Infinite versus finite?

Is it just for a being to invoke infinite punishment upon another being for a finite crime they commit?

Update:

I think perhaps some of you missed my point.

The concept of hell is an infinite punishment bestowed upon sinners.

Sin is a finite crime against God.

Thus, we have the concept of an infinite punishment as a consequences for a finite action.

U dont see ur double standard do u?

Does the murderer of one person get the same sentence as the thief of one candy? Hardly.

Yet here u only list quantity as the parameters by which we decide whats just punishment. You leave out quality of crime. The quality of sin is infinitely evil demanding infinite punishment. Esp since u did this crime against a infinte being. His holy infiniteness is the victim.

No it isn't. I think the reason the idea of infinite punishment was invented was to make it clear that there's no bargaining with God. No one would choose to sin and then be ok with their punishment. Such an extreme punishment discourages behavior that goes against cultural mores. That was the whole point.

I've seen this posted before as an answer. No, no it is not. I believe Christianity was created in order to control the populations. I also believe it, the devil and hell, were created to in order to force fear into people into believing in God. As a child, I believed in God because I feared him. I later figured out he doesn't exist.

What also bothers me is the fact that some parts of the Bible and the religion itself are flawed. If there was a true creator why would he reveal himself through a book? If a creator did exist wouldn't he foresee that some people would not reject him, but know that he doesn't exist? Only Humans could create these types of flaws. Obviously there are many more flaws.

The single thing that is infinite is a state of change.

Our earth's days are already numbered.

Literally nothing in our universe is infinite, so the point of this argument is.... pointless.

  • Fear is our most primal emotion. Rulers use it thus.

...So we're supposed to fear the eternal condemnation. I'm not sure anybody has missed the point.

    it certainly wouldn't be.

    fortunately, that can't happen.
