Red Light Skin Therapy, will it damage my fake nails (acrylics)?

Hi

My sister has booked herself and me an appointment at one of these spas that does these high-tech skin therapies. One of the services is called "red light therapy". From what I understand about it, you are supposed to stand in this thing that looks like a tanning bed except it's vertical. It has these red LED lights and you stand in it for like 15 minutes and it re-freshens your skin. Has anyone ever tried this before? Does it work? Am I supposed to be naked or can I wear a bra and panties? My sister and I both have acrylic nails, will it damage our fake nails?

Thanks! 10 points! :-)

I can only give part of an answer for this. Basically this is gentler and much less extreme than a tanning bed. The light will be absorbed through the whole thickness of your skin, rather than just the surface.

Plastics of various kinds are damaged by UV light. But red light is much very much lower energy than UV, it just doesn't have enough energy to break down acrylics. It won't do any damage to your nails. If you want to make absolutely sure, you could paint your nails red, that way the red light will be completely reflected and won't even reach the acrylic.
