Why do you think smoking should be banned in public?

I'm writing an essay about why smoking in public should be prohibited. I would like some suggestions on why YOU think smoking should be banned in public places (preferably reasons other than the health risk to nonsmokers and ecological aspects), or why it current bans should be removed. Thank you so much, I look forward to reading your opinions!

All smoking bans should be repealed. We don't have a democracy so self-entitled spoiled brat cry-babies can push their prejudices and childish whining onto everyone in the world with new laws. If people can't tolerate public places with other people who have free-choice for themselves; maybe they don't need to be part of the public and should be extradited to an island or to Germany when Hitler was in charge; because all they want to do is spit on America forefathers and warriors and the pain and suffering they went through to equip America with personal freedoms and freedom form dictatorship.

While I recognize the unfairness to smokers, I must say as an asthmatic and a non-smoker that I support the ban in SOME public places. I'm from the US (don't know if you're talking about the UK), so here one cannot smoke in restaurants, in some bars at the discretion of the owner, and within 20ft of a public building. I personally find it reasonable. While I understand it's an addiction, I feel that the more limitations placed on smokers the better. It's like letting an alcoholic drink and be rowdy wherever they are, they'll obviously bother someone with their addiction as they will effect others around them. Smoking is becoming more taboo because people are bothered by it. Frankly it stinks and it's an extremely unattractive and unhealthy habit. The more lives we can save by banning it the better. Lung cancer is a terrible thing to live through as it oral cancer, emphasema, and chronic bronchitis. I've watched relatives suffer through the adverse effects of smoking and it's unneccessary to die before your time just for a silly ciggarette.

I don't think it should be banned in public, unless you want to ban drinking in public, which means all bars would have to shut down, because it can harm innocent people by a drunk getting in their vehicle and slamming to a family of 4.

I think smokers should have the courtesy to keep their distance from others while smoking though, but I can't expect them to stop smoking in public all together. If a restaurant or bar allows smoking in their facilities and a non smoker goes there, then they have the right to leave if the smoke bothers them. They shouldn't expect others to stop what they are doing to appease others, but that's only if it's permitted in a place.

There's too many rules and regulations here any way. We don't need anymore. Like Bloomberg trying to limit the amount of soda one can sell. How hard is it to walk away from someone smoking? I'm not ok with others trying to limit people because it bothers them.

So in conclusion Smokers should be considerate, but if they are not, walk away instead of trying to get laws to for them to stop inadvertently bothering.

    There's many reasons why:

It's not good for the environment or health

    It's gross

It causes a lot of health problems and non smokers dislikes the smell of it

And smoking sets bad example kids

People debate the harmful effects of second-hand smoke... but all non-smokers hate the smell of smoke.

Personally, I think it can cause risk to people with asthma, little children, and people who are trying to quit smoking. It smells nasty, the ash can spread everywhere if windy and it just looks unattractive. It causes a drastic change in appearance and many people look down on smokers as unemployed, lazy, dirty, and nasty when in reality, they could be the opposite. It's just a nasty habit. :)

Because, I don't smoke and some others do not either. They say second hand smoke can be deadly to others. Why should non smokers in hale bad fumes. Would you want to smell the cars fumes?

I think not!!! Well, we don't want to smell that smoke either. We don't use cigarettes and we should not have to smell them either. Why do you think they said women who are pregnant should not be around anyone who smokes???? Bad fumes!!!
