Depends on where you live. Here in the Upper Midwest, we rarely do a termite inspection because such damage is quite rare. In the South, it is different. Follow your real estate agent's recommendations.

It is if you don't know what to look for in regards to termites. Its cheap and easy and a bank will probably make you do one anyhow. Its the kind of thing that costs $100 but could save you 20K in repairs (though usually the inspection will find nothing).
