Does anyone that goes into Hospice?

with comfort meds recover or come back home ??

My 93 grandma is going there in the early morning

please no negative I know it may sound like a stupid ? but we can all have some hope I guess

Death is just so sad she doesn't have cancer or anything but is disabled with some other health issues they say she's at about a stage 4 & because she's refusing to eat & so weak their taking their chance on sending her there because she asks to go there to die.

I just want to say to all of you on here tonight, I love the compassion that you all showed this young woman and the love through your words, just touched my heart, your a great bunch of people on here.

She goes into Hospice Office , well that is great alone.

Most sick or the elderly have to have Home Hospice, if she is up and moving good, that is good, now the not eating is not.

My mother passed with Cancer in 1997, she was on home hospice for months before she passed.

They finally said she is nearly gone, they gave her more and more Morphine that day, I remember it like it was yesterday, finally she was at peace, she did not wake up.

They never let her suffer, Hospice Care is the best in the World, the doctors, the nurses, so loving, so giving, they almost become family.

We brought her home, that is what she wanted more than anything, to be home with family and friends.

If your grandmother wants to be there, let her, that is her wish.

My prayers are with you all at this time of need.

    God bless you all.

I hope they are wrong, she will eat and come back home.

She has given up, if she is refusing to eat, like my mother did, she is saying, please let me go.

I know it not easy to hear, but it is even harder for me to say it to you, let her go, let her be where she wants to be...she will be happy.

God bless. Your all in my heart and thoughts.

Each hospice center practices differently - I was told that they would only grant hospice care if someone had less than 6 months to live - after 5 months, they took my mom off as she had recovered somewhat.

As to your grandma - I am sorry to say that it does not sound good. When people lose interest in food and water it is usually the bodies way of shutting down at that age. She knows that, I am sure, and has requested hospice as they will likely provide morphine so that she can pass along w/o pain or discomfort - it can be a planned and peaceful departure.

All you can do is go and sit with her, hold her hand, and maybe try & not make to much of a fuss - let her know how you feel quietly and be very gentle... We all go at some time, most of us just hope for a painless passing on when the body gives out...

Sadly No....they either die in Hospice, or Have Hospice come Home to Die, But they never recover.

Yes, You can Have Hope....but please know, that won't be the case.

Exactly. You don't need Cancer to die...other health issues will do it.

Yes, refusing to eat is one of the signs...all I can say is they will make her the most comfortable she has been in a long time. Rest Assured.

Actually I have known two people who were in hospice who started doing better and well enough to not need hospice anymore. But your grandma may be ready to go and, as you know, it is a part of everyone's life to eventually pass on and hospice can be very helpful to your grandma and to you and the family. Ask to get some of the pamphlets that hospice has about dying. They have a very good one about how death is kind of like a sailboat drifting out of your sight but it is not really gone, you just don't see it anymore. I know this is a difficult time.

I have so much respect for Hospice folks. They come into our lives when they

are in a really bad place. I was lucky to have Home Hospice for both my folks and they

both passed in their own bed, at home, peacefully. The hospice workers don't make big money, they do it because they have great compassion for the patients and family. My Moms Hospice person, was very well off and donated her paycheck. She came to the house when my Mom passed, on her time, to see if she could do anything for us. She also came to her service.

If you ever start to lose faith in human beings, talk to any one of those folks,

they will restore your faith in humanity.

I am very sorry about your Grandma, celebrate her life, try not to be sad. She lived a very full life we can all hope to live.

My health insurance policy states that a person going into hospice must have determination by a physician that the person has 6 mos. or less to live. I've never known of anyone who recovered enough to return home. I'm very sorry to hear about your grandmother.

  • I only know of 1 person who was in the Hospice who was there for 1 week but ended up there for several more weeks and got healthy and they sent her home, so anything is possible. And believe me that was so weird too! when she was supposed to be dying!

Hospice folks are gentle, kind and very efficient. People know when it's their time, and she knows it too. I'm sorry to relate that hospice is only used to help those who are about to cross over. She is in wonderful hands, so celebrate her long life remembering the happy times.

Usually hospice is for terminally ill people.
