Goth is a subculture based around music. http://ultimategothguide.blogspot.com/p/music.html
Try to find some bands that you like.
You don't have to 'be' goth. You could just carry out some styles.
A lot of goth fashion is very elegant.
This site does a good job of listing several subsets of goth.

Just scroll down a bit until you reach the types of fashion.

I did this whole thing in 7th grade, I look back on pictures and realize how bad I looked. There really is no way, and I would advise you to not go down that road, but it's your life and you can do whatever you want :) You can wear black but keep it pretty, and don't go too heavy on the eyeliner. Bad idea, I promise. Less eyeliner is more classy. Thicker eyelashes is a good way to keep it black but still pretty. Nice, black jeans are nice if paired with something elegant, like a nice dark cardigan and lighter undershirt. Don't do the studs/spikes, they're not very elegant. Although if it's not you, don't do it. Good luck :)

goth and elegant dont really mix. You should just dress elegant. You can wear cute high waisted shorts with a blouse and a purse.

Don't overdo the black. Mix in some red. Maybe red lipstick or eyeliner. Style your hair instead of just letting it hang straight.

I think a long black skirt is edgy and you can pair it with a dressy long sleeve with skulls on it!

If you don't like the skull blouse maybe do a white or cream shirt with the maxi skirt and do a skull cardigan, or even a cardigan with a black maxi dress!
Hope this helped. xoxo
