I'm talking about quality made handmade business cards with a lot of effort. Professional or unprofessional?

Mary has the right idea, but a hand/home made business card is fine unless you are looking for business from a business.
I have been using home made business cards since the 1980's. Because a business card is for the express purpose of providing information to someone who doesn't know you in an effort to make it easier to contact you later 'at their need'.
As a locksmith I use one for every new customer I meet, and for many people I don't know as I am passing them out. Mine contain a cash receipt on the back for those business situations where the customer needs one.
Your business needs should guide you when it comes to determining whether to use a professionally designed card or just getting a free template online and printing your own. I use card stock and cut my own cards.
Your quality needs should determine the quality you need to display to a potential customer.

When in doubt, stick to plain vanilla for cards. Have them done professionally. They don't cost that much and you can avoid encountering someone's weird personal fetish.
Also, whether it is a business card or your resume, have someone who never saw it before proof it for you. No one catches errors like a fresh set of eyes.
