GE washer knob broke off, now even using pliers doesn't work?

The knob to my front loading GE washing machine broke off months ago, and is now lost. I've been using needle nose pliers to turn what's left of it, to select the washing settings (speed wash, delicates, etc.). Now now matter which direction I turn it, it stays where it's at, on speed wash. It's not much of a problem except when I need to wash delicates and such. I can't afford a repairman or a new washer. I think the piece I grip the pliers with is just past it's time. I can pull while turning it, push it in, everything and it doesn't move. Is there a way to fix this somehow? I have no money to buy a new washer, idk what to do if this breaks even more :(

Looks like you are going to have to bite the bullet and call a repairman. The longer you let this problem go on (you've actually let it go too long as it it) the more expensive it will be. Your only other option is wash your delicates by hand.
