Belt squeal but only on first start?

00 VW Gti 1.8T

I believe the belt is squealing but this only happens on the first start of the day. I can start the car shut it off then restart it and the noise will go away. That seems odd to me because if it were the belt wouldn't it squeal all the time? Only when engine is cold and on the first start.

The belt looked good to me, no cracks at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is prob being caused by the load from the alternator at start up..

inspect the " belt tensioner " . it might be a stuck and not applying enough tension on the belt.

    Hello

Squeal would not be caused by cracked belt it is normally a badly adjusted one (Slack) and is normally the Alternator Drive Belt.

Traditional (trapezoidal) belts squeal when too tight. Check the tension and adjust as necessary, otherwise it will break when you least expect it to.

Alternator belts rarely have tensioners, tyou should move the alternator itself in the adjustable bracket.

Check your owner's manual and find out how often the belt tensioner should be replaced.

The problem is either a weak belt tensioner assembly or a stretched belt.

Many auto supply stores sell a spray that stops the squeal. It worked for me.

Spray WD40 on it, when turns. Not much, just enough to "moisture" belt.
