How do i get motivated to run?

I am not an athlete, never have been. I casuly work out but i have never had the drive for much more than that. I have wanted to be a fire fighter since i was 3 and curantly i am a volunteer with the local station for the last 5yrs. To become paid in this state you have to pass a physical of 1.5 mile run in 13:00min. I have never ran any distance except maybe when i was late for class. I have goten were i can do a mile fairly consistanly in about the time i am saposed to be abel to do the whole thing. This feels like an imposibal task. Most of my problem is mental becouse as soon as i start to feel tierd i just stop and i cant get back started. Or i cant get started to begene with. This seems to be true with all exercise not just runing. I know i am not lazy becouse on the fire ground i work as long as it takes. This physical is just somthing i need help with any ideas?

Since you know it's in your mind, try to find ways to combat that.

Personally, I use a "potential" zombie apocalypse as motivation for climbing and running...I want to be fit and able to get out of Dodge if sheet hits the fan...I don't live day to day stocking up supplies or anything, I just tap into the idea of being able to scamper up a wall or dash out of danger.

A coworker that runs is upfront that he runs for the 'swag' for doing various events around the state.

Maybe it's time to get a work-out buddy, or short of that, borrow a dog that you can go for runs with.

And, as a side note, the more you do it the better you'll get. I've only been running for about 1.5 months, and fairly infrequently at that, but my mile has improved by about 4 minutes already. Just keep at it, a few times a week until you're at your goal. Best of luck.

Try listening to music when you run. This helps but to be honest: everybody hates running. It is just something you have to push through.
