you can opt out of the body scanner at any age but you will be subject to a pat down.

and you may not even be in a line that has the scanner. you may only have to do the metal detector.

If they ask you to line up for a scanner, you may be able to ask for a pat down instead. But, keep in mind that pat downs may take longer than the scanner. I've seen the scanner doing its job. Its pretty quick. Or, you might just be told to go through a certain metal detector and if you that off then maybe you wouldn't be asked to do additional screening. It just depends on the moment.

No . The scanners are there to protect others. A person can carry drugs or firearms or anything illegal at any age . Adults have been known to hide things with children.

Yes, you can opt out. I always opt out.

You can go through the body scanner and retain your dignity, but if you refuse, be prepared to get strip searched, in front of everyone waiting in line behind you.

Only some airports have them and not all people go thru them. If you are asked to go through, you gotta go...your age makes absolutely no difference. you are traveling as an adult, anyway.
