My dog has bladder cancer, has anyone here had a dog with this type of cancer?

My 12-year-old German Shepherd,Lulu, has transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. Has anyone had experience with this and did you treat your dog or what? What was the outcome?? I am using Piroxicam and herbal remedies. Lulu is still eating and fairly active but strains to urinate. I cannot afford surgery at this time. Any feedback is appreciated.

Update:

I know how hard it is to let them go. But she is still eating and acting relatively normal,so I am going to try this medication and the herbal treatment.Yes,she will let me know when she is ready to go. :(

Thanks.

I am so sad about your poor dog, I know just what your going through.

I lost my Pepper to the same thing, he was 18 years old when I had to finally put him down.

He would have been 19 years old Dec. 21, 2004.

I miss him so much. He was a Miniature Schnauzer, the love of my life, my little boy.

He started having problems urinating, and we took him to our vet, he had been our vet at that time for over 20years and he was so good.

He tested positive for the cancer, we did Chemo for 3 months, he got worse and worse, then could not stand on his own, had to hold him up one day to urinate and poop, he looked up at me, like mom it is time, please let me go.

I called my Vet, he said to bring him in, I did.

We both agreed it was time to let him go, not to suffer any longer, I was crying so hard.

He left us alone for about 2 hours, then came in with his shot, and then I held him till he was gone, he was starring me right in my eyes, then he closed his little eyes and he was gone, DR. D came back in, and stood with me, he said he went easy, no pain, no jerking and then I just sat down in the floor with him in my arms and could let him go.

I sat and cried with him for another 3 hours, yes I did, Dr. D, came back in, he said let me take him, you need to go home now and start the healing, your a diabetic and you need to stop all this stress as much as you can.

I left, and I ordered him to be cremated, and I have his little casket with his name on top of it, and a little Schnauzer angel on top of it also. It is sitting on my desk right by my computer, he is with me all the time.

I am so sad for you, and I am sure you have been a wonderful dog owner, and your best friend is suffering, you cannot let the suffering to continue.

You say you cannot afford the surgery, to make you aware of something, this type of cancer, with surgery and chemo, usually you cannot save the dog, it will prolong the life some, but not much.

Please do not stress over money for surgery or Chemo, the Chemo is very very expensive.

We spent over $11,000.00 to save my boy, but all the money in the World could not save him.

You may want to talk to your vet, if she is having problems urinating, then she is most likely in lots of pain as well.

The medicine you have her on, is not that effective, trust me, I have been there.

I would not regret all the money I spent on Pepper to save him, and would do it again.

I would not wish this on anyone.

God bless you both, my heart and prayers are with you both.

But, there is a point when you must say goodbye for the good of the dog, to end the suffering, and to end your pain as well, the coping with it and all

My little boy will be done 9 years Sept 8, 2013.

I now have Demon my Miniature Schnauzer, he will be 9 years old on August 21st, and my Bo, he is my 10 month old Newfoundland.

I now take my dogs in every 6 months for complete blood work ups, kidney checks, a full totally physical, I will not let another dog go due to cancer.
