Taking your permit test at the DMV experience?
Tomorrow I am going to the DMV to take my written test to obtain a permit. I reside in California by the way. It is first time ever going to the DMV so I do not know what to expect. Can someone please share with me their experience with going to the DMV to take their permit test? When I first walk in where do I go? How long will I have to wait? Where will the testing take place? If I pass will they take a picture and will I receive my permit on the spot? Thank you!

Hi Vivian!
It's understandable that you are stressed before the test, but I would not worry about it so much, it's not as hard as it seems!
First, to avoid waiting in line, you can make an appointment for the DMV visit on their website, here is the link: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/foa/welcome.do You need to choose the "Office visit appointment" option on that page. It's not mandatory, but will save you standing in line.
When you come in, you can either go to the help desk or any rep who is is free and they will guide you. The layout of different offices is somewhat different, so no one will give you "left-right" direction on here.
If you make an appointment, you do not usually have to wait for more than 5-10 minutes. If you don't make an appointment... well, let's just say that it's better to make one. It's summer, kids are applying for licenses, it may be crowded.
The testing will take place right there on one of their computers! Yes, if you pass, they will take a photo and will issue you with a temporary permit right there on the spot. Keep in mind that you cannot drive alone with this person and must have a supervising driver next to you. If you are under 17 and 1/2 years of age, you must also have this permit signed by a professional driving instructor before you start driving with parents.
Make sure you read the handbook and take a free sample exam here http://education4drivers.com/california/tests/free... to see if you are ready for the real test!
Good luck!
