When 29.5 mL of 0.675 M H2SO4 is added to 29.5 mL of 1.35 M KOH in a coffee-cup calorimeter at 23.50°C, the temperature rises to 30.17°C. Calculate ΔH of this reaction. (Assume the total volume is the sum of the volumes and the density and specific heat capacity of the solution are the same as for water.)
a) ΔH per mole of H2SO4 reacted in kJ/mol
b)ΔH per mole of KOH reacted in kJ/mol
1 AnswerChemistry5 years agoCalculate enthalpy for thermochemical reaction?
Consider the following balanced thermochemical equation, a reaction sometimes used for H2S production.
1/8 S8(s) + H2(g) → H2S(g)
ΔH = −20.2 kJ
1) Endothermic or exothermic reaction?
2) What is ΔH for the reverse reaction?
3) What is ΔH when 1.7 mol of S8 reacts?
4) What is ΔH when 20.9 g of S8 reacts?

Oxalic acid (H2C2O4) found in dark leafy, green vegetables such as spinach, can inhibit iron absorption in the body. To determine the concentration of oxalic acid in a food, one can titrate a sample with a permanganate solution, which changes color on reaching the equivalence point. If one cup of spinach contains 180 mg of oxalic acid, how many milliliters of 0.0100 M permanganate solution would be required to reach the equivalence point? The balanced equation is given here.
