A Question about deleted answers on Yahoo! Answers?
Can someone please enlighten me and explain the following?
1) Who actually decides to delete an answer? Is it a member of the forum or someone from Yahoo. I have really innocuous answers deleted for, seemingly, no reason.
2) Appeals process. I used to appeal against my deleted answers but that seems a waste of time. The appeals process says it will inform you of the outcome of the appeal; but they never do.
3) Why don't they give a definite reason for deleting your answer? All they say is that it contravenes their guidelines. But I'd like to know just how it does.
Thanks for your answers but take care they are not deleted!

The trusted ones report posts... once one or more of the trusted make a report your post is taken down.
My appeals used to work but now my pleas seem to fall on deaf ears... I don't even get a response back one way or another about the status on my appeal... I'm not sure if I'm not on some sort of "black list".
I say sucks to any site that lets the trolls run the show and leaves legitimate users to fend for themselves... I used to love this site and it went to ****.

The actual reporting process is handled automatically. If one or more 'trusted' reporters report an answer or question, then it will get deleted.
If you appeal, it may, or may not, be looked into be a real person, but as you say, you never get an explanation other than contravention of T&C.
I have successfully appealed against a deleted answer, but more often I've never heard anything.
The reporting system is hit and miss, if someone doesn't like your answer then they can report it, and it may get deleted.
I once reported an answer that was suggesting that the asker commit insurance fraud. Not only was the answer left in, but it got voted as best answer.
What you have to remember is that this forum is a free service, and Yahoo! is more likely to put resources into something that provides an income. This is why the reported questions are processed by an automatic system, and the only human intervention is for some of the appeals.
There are lots of things wrong with the system, trolls and people with multiple accounts to vote themselves as best answer are some of the worst, but as long as some good comes out of it, and some genuine people do get their problems resolved, then overall it's not a bad thing.

I think the guideline that catches most people out is about "chatting", not acceptable because it doesn't follow the question and answer format. If it is a question that you could find the answer to elsewhere, like the dictionary, it is considered to violate the guidelines, even though it is "innocuous".
Read the Y/A guidelines and you might see where you are going wrong.
Granted, there are a lot of questions (and answers) that violate the guidelines, that don't get deleted because no one reports them. On the other hand, if you get a lot of questions reported/deleted, someone may have a grudge against you.

Don't worry you aren't the only one. Yahoo is allowing trolls to run the show. Legitimate users are being targeted by users who are seeking vengeance, (for what ever reason). Trolls are singling out questions/answers and reporting them for their own (personal reasons). Question are being posted that do harm to children and are allowed to stay up for their four day limit, but other question/answers are deleted just to satisfy these trolls. There is nothing that we can do as long as Yahoo refuses to solve the problem.

Your question is an enigma to which all of us legit users on here would dearly loved answered truthfully.
Y!A do not appear to be able to differentiate between legitimate or troll reporting. We are all being targetted.

Most the time are: the people on your list that they report you if they do not like your question, or your Answers. That what happen to me very often, they report me if they are not happy for what I say.
