is it illigal to write erotic stories about teenagers?

I write erotic stories. But I was wondering if it was illegal to write about say A 14 year old boy and his teacher a 40 year old women.

Update:

Thank you all about the information.

I was always worried about writing stuff with minors. It does make sense though. Literature is fiction therefore not real.

If it is, then I'm headed to a jail cell right next to Mary Kay Letourneau :) Two of the characters in my story entangled in a sexual liaison are right about the ages you mention. But anyway, I have heard some people claim that such a thing could be considered "kiddie porn" and if someone read it and was offended by it the person who wrote it could get in legal trouble BUT I don't know how true that is and if it is something that could even be held up in a legal standpoint. As for me, no one sees my writing but me and a select few others and no one has objected to any of my subject matter yet, and besides, if you think about it, I'm sure you've seen movies where teenagers were involved in sexual relationships with someone much older. Two I can think of right off the top of my head are movies called Notes on a Scandal and The Lover.

No, I don't think it's illegal. I think you may have a hard time publishing it, but I think that your 1st amendment right allows you to write it. I wouldn't read the story, personally. Also, should you continue with the story, please do not romanticize this. A 14 year old boy and a 40 year old woman is rape. (Additionally, there are plenty of rape-based plots within fiction. I mean, rape is a crime, just like underage and statutory rape and child molestation is a crime... I don't see why one would be illegal and the other isn't.)

Nonetheless, as I am not a lawyer, here are few links that pertain to this topic. I haven't read them all the way through, but I suggest you do:

    Why should it be?

An analogy - murder is illegal; but an awful lot of writers make a living from writing about it.

Probably not.... As long as it isn't based off of something real with actual people in it or something like that
