Advice for the first day of high school?

I'm going to 9th grade this year and to be honest I'm horrified. I feel like I'm going to stick out. In middle school the black kids thought I was weird because I didn't listen to rap and hip hop. I listen to indie pop, R&B, and Kpop. The high school I'm going to is 70% black. Which I don't mind, I had friends that accepted that listening to rap just wasn't my thing and they were cool with that.I'm not saying I'm scared of going to school with mostly black people because my elementary school was like 98% black, but how to not stick out as much so I wont get picked on. Also, any advice for the first day. Like how to not look awkward and nervous. I don't know anyone going to my high school except an ex. I don't want to seem like a huge loner sitting in the corner by myself for the whole first week of school. Also, I wanted to get a Bemo backpack ( The robot from adventure should I get it or...). Thank you!!! I put it in this section because I thought I would get better nicer answers.

Update:

My middle school was really diverse. Everyone hung out together. I had friends of every race.

Don't worry so much. I wasn't so different than you in high school. I'm sort of "different" in most crowds so I was picked on a bunch, but hey it happens, you know? That's the price we pay to be ourselves. Is much have it that way than pretend to be someone I'm not. I have always had a very close knot group of friends who accepted me for who I was regardless of me listening to classical music, j-pop, and being obsessed with sci-fi, fantasy, and jrpgs. I still graduated valedictorian, went on to graduate summa *** laude in college, and am now working in a promising career. High school is a very short period in your life. Focus on your studies, have fun with people who appreciate you, and live your life like it's golden every step of the way.

    Best of luck to you.

Everything should be fine. If you have friends in any of your classes, talk to them, if not, try being really friendly and you'll make friends in no time. Having friends in your classes will make you feel less like you're left out. Be sure to get lots of sleep the night before, too. You don't want to be tired on your fist day of high school. As for the music situation, I'm sure there will be more people who are like you and don't like rap. I don't know how big your high school is, but since they're typically larger than middle schools, they usually have more diversity in the likes/dislikes in students.

Hello my friend :) I'm going to ninth grade as well in a few days. 14th in fact. All the schools I'v been to have been super diverse because of the area I live in. But that doesn't matter. high school is a place with more mature people. Unlike these movies you see where for example a gothic style girl is always in the corner or socially awkward, those cases aren't very true unless the person him/herself doesn't want to interact or be with people and socialize. (high five I like Kpop too :D) If you try to be like the people and mix in, I personally felt left out because most of the kids in my school were eastern Asian, however I'm middle eastern. Apparently they didn't consider me Asian but I mixed in very well when I tried to talk and hang out. I think its no different for black people, you can try becoming friends of different races, you might as well find common interests in them rather than blacks.

    Good luck :)

if you were happy in middle school then don't treat high school any different also it's best not to pretend to be something you're not, do what YOU want to do, act the way YOU want to act don't try and live your life through other peoples eyes, you'll just end up regretting it in the future and chances are if you just be yourself you'll meet someone like you and potentially make a life long friend. doesn't having a few really close friends sound better than having a bunch of fake friends?

    Anyway hope that helps.

Source(s): Just finished high school a few months back and have no regrets.

God only made one of you so in that sense you are unique but many of your interests are shared by others so in that sense you are not unique.

    My advice:

Find and/or create your own "unique crew."
