Why do Jehovah Witnesses run away from crucifixes?

No joke. I was at work one day and a JW approached me with his watchtower literature. I took it and I returned my view by giving him a free set of rosary beads. He was so uncomfortable and said, what is that? As I started explaining he ran away. Seemed he was terrified of the crucifix. I know many non-Catholics do not believe in the rosary but I have not seen any run away from rosary beads or a crucifix. But JWs do. Makes them seem like vampires or satanic. Of course, they do not believe that Jesus died on a cross but on a pole. Rejecting the cross. Don't seem Christian to me

Update:

added: There you have it folks. Straight from the JWs. Rejecting the Cross of our savior. Do you think their Christians?

They run from any person of another religion. They want you to hear their side of religion, but they do not want to hear yours.

There's also something fishy about your story as well Mike. But lets say for arguments sake that what you say is true, then think about this. Maybe he was obeying 1 Corinthians 10:14.

From our side of the argument,I know of one of Jehovah's Witnesses who had called at a Catholic man's home. The man grabbed his crucifix off the wall and held it out toward the Witness in what can only be called an attempt to "ward off evil". lol. The crucifix fell apart in his hand. You make your own mind up on that. By the way,the cross is not a symbol of true Christianity. And Rosary beads are just another evidence of how far removed from Christianity the church is. Sorry to burst your bubble but those are the facts.

Sorry Mike, but your additional details betray in you a lack of biblical knowledge and an immaturity.

But I'm a fair person. Please provide scriptural proof that we should recognize a cross as the implement of Jesus' death and state your reason for keeping an instrument of torture about you. Also, give scriptural references of Jesus' command to venerate the cross.

It was a stake. Not a cross or a pole. A stake.

Some get carried away with the notion that if you loved your savior so much then why would you worship by wearing around your neck or place on a rosary a symbol that your savior was tortured on?

God says fear no man..or whatever he's carrying.

Source(s): Not a JW, but I do know some and they don't act like that.

It's curious that people place so much value on displays of faith like the cross, emblems of a fish with a cross inside stuck on the bumper of their cars or the cross applied to the back window of their vehicles and go on about their daily lives without regard to what the Bible teaches. You see these folks running stop signs, red lights, cutting others off, speeding, etc just to name a few things...tell me... what is more important? displays of icons and religious symbols or actually continually following in Jesus's footsteps however imperfect we are?

I agree with Rick. I would be humiliated and embarrassed to wear a weapon around my neck. Jesus die don a stake. and not a pagan cross. I hardly believed he ran away, Too far fetched for me to believe.

He might have not known what to say.

I would have told you "No thanks. They are not necessary for me to pray to God."

Plus I have a logical problem with people who carry around a copy of a weapon that killed someone they loved. It would be like the family members of the victims of John Wayne Gacy carrying a knife in remembrance of the way he cut up their sons.

Okay, the only way to be sure he's not a threat is to get him to look into a silver-backed mirror.
