How soon can I return to work after cataract surgery?
I work as a nurse in a doctors office. We use an electronic medical record system, so I spend a lot of time on the computer with documentation. I check patients into the exam room, do typical nursing care, and assist with surgical office procedures. I will have my right eye operated on first, then 2 weeks later, the left eye will be done. I'm concerned about how my vision will effect my work in the 2 weeks between the eye surgeries. (one eye with "good" vision and one eye with "bad" vision) I would appreciate comment from others who have had cataract surgery and can tell me from personal experience what to expect. Thank you.

Dear VCL
This is a question best answered by your eye surgeon. One cannot know the specifics of your situation from what you have asked on YA.
That said, there are two main ways vision is corrected after cataract surgery. One is that you will receive a multifocal lens that allows you to see far and near. If this is the case and barring any post-op problems, you should be able to see far and near almost right away following your surgery on the first eye.
The other option is that you will be corrected for distance and then will use near glasses to see for close up work such as looking at the EMR on the computer. If this is the case, the operated eye may not match up well with the still unoperated second eye until the second eye is done in 2 weeks. Some people can deal with that and others, not.
Good luck with the surgeries.
