So most people regarding this question on religion were wrong?

I asked if people ever thought religion would go away. Most of them said yes it will eventually. Here is the link to that question and the peoples response.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As9da...

However what if i told you that the truth is the complete opposite? As in, the amount of religious people, Catholics at least, has been steadily rising since its existence?

(Pew research center) http://www.pewforum.org/2011/12/19/global-christia...

I know this might sound crazy with this recent atheist fad going on in the more materialistic countries but here are the facts. The percentage of Catholics has risen. It ever stopped.

What if i told you that eventually everyone in the world would be religious some day. Everyone in the world would be catholic? Because history and the numbers show that is the direction it is headed.

Update:

Tain- yes the statistics do fluctuate and vary by country, but that doesnt change the fact that Catholicism as a whole continues to grow everyday. There are less and less atheists. It is only a matter of time.

Update 2:

HC SVNT DRACONES - i can play the logic game. The PERCENTAGE of Catholics in the owrld has gone up. That means that we are converting people faster than they are being born. As in, there are not only more catholics, but a higher percentage of the world is catholic. See the link.

Yes, however, pars of the religion will change. As new information pops up we have to determine how this correctly fits into catholic doctrine. It never changes but is simply added to. Dont worry though the policy towards atheists has always been the same. I know my book than you know my book.

You asked a non-factual question, which was to speculate about the trend of religion, then you call them wrong. That makes no sense. For this "question" there isn't enough data to predict the long term trend of any religion let alone all of them. It's absurd to think that you have an inkling as to who is right about how religion is going to end up.

"What if i told you that eventually everyone in the world would be religious some day. Everyone in the world would be catholic? Because history and the numbers show that is the direction it is headed."

    Then you'd be wrong.

    Birth rate =/= conversion rate

There are more Catholics in the world because there are more people in the world. And guess what? The number of Muslims has steadily been increasing, too. As have the number of Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, etc.

So, your entire line of reasoning is flawed.

And for the record, I don't think religion will ever go away, but it will change, as it always has, and most of the major religions will be unrecognizable from what they are today, just as they're unrecognizable from what they were centuries ago. Religions evolve, just like everything else.

Just a short time ago, Catholic dogma insisted that all non-Catholics go to hell, and even unbaptized babies end up in limbo. Now we have a pope that says even atheists can make it to heaven. The religion you practice now won't even be close to what the religion that bears the same name will be in a couple generations.

What if I told you in order for Catholics to rule the world, them and the Muslims would have to fight to the death, since both want to be king of earth, probably wiping each other out in the process? As long as we're speculating of course.

But in most developed countries religion is declining in the general population (not including immigrants). For example Christianity in New Zealand went from 63.8% in 1996 to 53.6% in 2006 and irreligion has gone from 32.1% to 42.0% in the same period of time. Other religions have grown from 2.7% to 5.4% due to immigration.

If you said that "eventually everyone would be Spiritual and there would be peace on earth ..."

    I would then agree ~

At some point, humanity will go extinct, and so will religion.
