Well, I spent a few years in Albuquerque and was not impressed. The wages are very low compared to the cost of living.
The weather is very nice, but there is wind in every season. Yes, there is a lot of sunshine, but always windy.
The population is a mixture, which is favorable. There are many American Natives, Latinos, Cambodians (usually have small businesses), many with Spanish heritage (from Spain). Yes, there is country land for rent but don't forget it's desert, so I did not like the country side....I'm used to a lush green country side. Houses are terribly expensive, mostly flat roofed (which I don't care for, Lol)
Each Nationality stays with there own, there isn't socializing or mingling. Most can't speak English, and I got the impression, didn't want to learn. It is a very sparsely populated State. Albuquerque being the biggest City, and Santa Fe, the capital, much smaller and about 60 miles from Albuquerque. I enjoyed the mountains in Abq. as there is one side of mountains and three sides of desert. Having lived in many countries, States, etc, I was not impressed. If it isn't for your work, I would advise you to take a fairly long vacation and check it out for yourself. Good Luck, it certainly may be exactly what you're looking for >3
