What to pack for San Francisco in August?

I'm going to go visit a friend in San Fran tomorrow and have most of my stuff packed but would like to check to make sure I have all the necessary things. I'll be there for 3 days and will leave the morning of the 4th day. I'm only able to bring a carry on, so it restricts the amount of clothes I can bring.

So far I've packed:

- 2 Sweaters; Black, Teal

-1 Dress; Red with floral design (And a black short sleeved sweater to go over this)

- 2 Tank Tops for under sweaters; White and Black

- 2 Pair Jeans; Dark Blue, Black

- 3 Pair Socks

- Converse - Black (My go-to shoes)

- Gladiator Sandals - Tan

- 1 Pair Yoga Pants (For flight home)

- 1 Tee Shirt (For flight home)

On the way there I'll be wearing a pair of dark blue pants with a white tank top and gray sweater with converse.

I'll obviously bring necessary grooming and hygienic items, but these don't need to be mentioned.

Are there any other clothing items I should bring?

Thanks!

SF is a walking city, so bring shoes that are comfy.

In August, it could be 60 or it could be 80. Bring shorts.

Hat and sunglasses for the wind.

Cash for the BART ride into the City. If your friend is picking you up cool. A taxi will cost you $75.

Don't call it "Frisco" or San Fran. We get offended.

If you need anything, there are plenty of department stores.

Including the gray sweater you're wearing on the flight, that's 3 sweaters you're bringing. Think about 1 sweater and a jacket you can wear over the sweater instead during your 3-day stay.

Longtime Bay Area residents know to have layers when going to San Francisco because the weather varies depending on where you are in the city. It can be sunny in downtown but drive 15 minutes away and it's cool, or windy, or the fog rolls in. In summer, it's typically cool in the morning, warms up during the day, and gets cool again in the afternoon but different areas of San Francisco have micro-climates so the temperatures are not the same from neighborhood-to-neighborhood so it's best to have clothes you can layer if it gets cool.

Unless you have some dress-up activity planned, it's pretty casual dress for most places there.

    Sounds fine... if detailed.

The one thing is if your options are sweaters or tank tops, you might want something in between. Not that important, you won't be miserable with your options... but if you wanted a critique, there ya go.

Someone mentioned rain. It won't rain. Average precipitation in August is 0.06". ~1/20th of an inch for the entire month. Getting actual rain (as opposed to the odd 5 minutes of mist in the early morning) in August is nearly unheard of, and there's nothing in the forecast. No hat needed.

    You're fine.

Bring layers. Weather in San Francisco is highly variable, It might be 70s for a while, then drop into the 50s.

    1. A hat/cap in case it rains - 12% chance of rain in August.

    2. As daytime temperatures generally range from 66 - 72, and as nights can be chilly down to mid 50's, a jacket for over the sweaters might be useful for layering to keep you warm.

You need to ask your friend about this... if you are in the city of San Fran it could be pretty cold. I think it's in the low 60s this week during the day. But if you are in the East Bay or Silicon Valley area it could be in the high 80s...

You should be good. The weather calls for highs in the 70s/lows in the mid 50s over the next few days.

You may already be on your way, but I am actually IN San Francisco as I write this. Your list is just fine, the weather has been fine and it's going to stay that way all week. You couldn't ask for better weather - it's just beautiful outside. Rain?!?!?
