What do you think of the idea to boycott the Sochi Winter Olympics?

And if it were to also happen (which I don't believe it will, just asking for your opinion), what do you think the reaction would be from the rest of the countries be (such as China and other friends of Russia, "third world" countries, Eastern Europe, etc)?

No, we should not boycott them.

It goes without saying that different countries have different laws and different views on a lot of things. One purpose of the Olympics is to bring people together from all over the world for a common activity.

So let's keep it up if we can.

Gays have more than enough influence already and their criticism of Russian attitudes doesn't justify a boycott. Worse human rights issues occur in China but that didn't cause/justify a boycott of the main Olympics in Beijing.

There are other ways of registering protests in a positive way - instead of a negative boycott, which would only serve to increase anti-American feelings among non-aligned countries as well as pro-Russian countries.
