My sister lives in Florida. Her air conditioner went out.?
Every contractor she spoke with said in florida that if you replace the air conditioner you must replace the furnace as well and vice versa. Is this true?

Has she actually had any hvac contractors come out?...you use the term" went out".what was the diagnostic?....There are several national laws and codes that are and have been in place. Most importantly;is matched equiptment and transitioning over to 410a refrigerant.if it is a gas furnace there are guidelines that in place for safety/seer ratings and compatibility.its not something that should be done over the phone.Point being if shes in Florida have her get in touch with factory authorized dealers.Go to your manufacturers websites and get some well established companies to get some free estimates. There's not to many companies who wont. Many times older gas furnaces do not meet Ari standards;and if it is a R22 unit then indoor unit (needs to be replaced)...supply a little more info (make;model;age;.type of unit.there are some (very seasoned techs who answer on here.Could possibly get a lot of useful non-biased info on here;good luck.
