Depends on the sort of pain.

Peppermint relieves headaches & some other pains.

Ginger compresses are for external pain.

It would be best if you got Yoga of Herbs by David Frawley & Vasant Lad & pore over that for yourself. It's a very good book & gives the possible side effects & cautions of each one.

Still, some of the wimpy little herbs like peppermint & ginger are very good. I'm just thinking that you may be hoping for something a bit more radical than that.

Jatamansi in small amounts is fairly safe. It's also called Indian spikenard & is a slightly safer version of valerian. It's also good as a sleep aid. You have to be very careful with how much you take if you don't want to oversleep the next day. It's available in blends & in teabags for relaxing & sleeping.

You might want to look at ayurvedic herbal companies, such as http://www.mapi.com/ as well as an Ayurvedic institute in New Mexico & Bazaar of India in Berkeley & ask for their recommendations & find out about their consultations.

Otherwise, I'm hesitant to recommend anything except the very mildest things like peppermint that are available at any supermarket & are about as safe as anything could be.

Also try books from your library, hopefully, for suggestions on acupressure, like acupuncture except it's without the needles & you're supposed to be able to do it for yourself. Sesame oil self-massages are good, too.

Note that there are also some natural pain remedies given in the archives for specific conditions. You might want to check out those as well. There are no doubt some via a search engine, but I didn't do a search on that. In general, I wish you the best on this.

As topicals (creams), there's Sports Creme, Epsom Lotion, & Arnica. I've never used Arnica because I already had the first two when I heard about Arnica, which is supposed to be more natural. These are all for such things as pulled muscles & aches & pains.

Aquarobics and Massage therapies work miracles for people dealing with acute or chronic pain.

The water works the muscles, and it's more comfortable; close to Half of an Hour takes when working out in the water, equaling to One Hour outside of it. Aquarobics it's not as dramatic or fast pace as a regular one.

-Using Eucalyptus oils and creams when massaging makes all the difference in the world; and if you want, also spreading it before going to bed at night.

Drinking Mint and Eucalyptus Tea with "less of sugar as possible", it also works, because it's a natural healer and Pain Reliever. After faithfully drinking that tea, you'll notice its effects within 4 days; but keep at it and don't discontinue it.

    Do the following DAILY.

1- Boil a large cup of water early each morning, let it cool a bit and drink.. that eases the day for anyone, really. I would put a few drops of lemon. Avoid coffee, at least early in the morning.

2- Stretch or ideally use trampoline. not for hours just 15 min. a day.

3- Add greens to your diet.

    4- Add Pro-bio-tics, combudja...

    5- Keep Hydrated.
