    Different cultures have different traditions. In Africa and parts of the Middle East, you can still get life imprisonment for homosexual acts.

    In the US, homosexuality was considered a mental illness until 1991 and was grounds for denying US immigration. This year we recognized same sex spouses as a preference category.

    But things change. Do you ever watch Russian television? One popular show, Adine v Adine, features female and male impersonators singing, and there are comedies with obvious homosexual stereotypes, so it is not something Russians aren't familiar with.

    Give them 20 years.

    All countries are homophobic including the U.S. where gay people still get beat up and are disliked. The U.S. has a written constitution which has been amended to protect their civil rights. You have to remember that Russia as it exists now is only 22 years old and they may modify their laws along the way. Now that they are not the Soviet Union they are religious and conservative. Just like the Republicans (LOL)

    There is no reason to criticize homosexual laws since they exist in most countries of the world excluding Europe. They may not be keeping pace with our laws but many people applaud what they have done: stop the prosthelytizing of the homosexual agenda against children.

    They probably would not have done this if the U.S. would cooperate and negotiate many different issues between the two countries. You cant stop the U.S. military from wrecking the world but you can pass a law that makes the U.S. squirm.

    It's important to understand that the USSR has employed youth corruption and propaganda twice, once against its own people, during the Russian civil war, and then against America, during the cold war. They were different methods. The one against Russians themselves was that of wealth distribution and economic justice. The one with America was focused on making degeneracy acceptable, and more with social justice. For this reason the USA accepts degeneracy such as gay marriage, acceptance of lustful lifestyles, immaturity and heritage denial and multiculturalism, while Slavic and ex-soviet countries have not been brainwashed into this state. Thats why they are seen as homophobic, racist blahblahblah. The West controls the media and gets to portray Russia as whatever. But the USA has been spoiled by Soviet mind control.

    the only media call russia as homophobic nation is american.

    in fact, no other media was interested to bash russia anti gay propaganda law.

    because most of these nation dont have law which treat "gay "as equal beings.

    there are only two beings, men and women.

    gay -invented term.

    there is no such thing as "deprivation of their basic rights."

    being gay in russia is not an offence. but preaching or spreading the gospel of gay is considered an offence.

    I doubt if Russia is anymore homophobic than anyplace else - they're just not very liberal yet... They'll get there. You got to figure that gay people are just as important in their science, art, tv and radio and army as they are anywhere else - so they're sort of hard to overlook for very much longer.

    Based on recent media reports it seems as though Russia is being portrayed that way. However, given how foreign media portrays the U.S., I don't assume that ALL Russians feel that way, no.

    I think the government is. I won't speak for the people though, as I have never been to Russia.

    Homo = man

    Phobia = afraid of.

    Homophobia is a stupid, meaningless term. Russia is not afraid of man.
