.410 spread in rifled barrel questions?
If a .410 shot shell was fired in a rifled barrel how would shot act when out of the barrel ?Would it expand at the same rate as a smooth bore in a O pattern? What's the range like compared to smooth bore?

in my experience (old Trapdoor rifle - yea, .410 shot shells will fit that particular old 45/70 it seems that the wad and shot cup would pick up a "spin" in the rifled barrel and we would not see much spread until way past 50 yards. At that distance - the shot was running out of velocity and dropping quickly.

No or minimal impact on range, the pattern, however, is rather different, instead of a circle filled with holes, it would be rather more like a donut, a circle of shot and a circle within that mostly free of shot.
