  • Shooting a rifle with magazine touching the ground for support?

When I shoot (the SA80 to be specific) I use the magazine for support by having touching the ground when I shoot. I have fired several hundred rounds like this without a single stoppage as a result but I have not heard of anyone else doing it. I just wondered if anyone else did this when shooting or there opinion of it.

  • Airsoft gun questions?

Looking to get into airsoft, I've done it once borrowing a gun but would like to take it more seriously. I'm looking at around £150 (or about $200) but would go more if it's worth it. I don't want something too role specific like sniping and am more interested in something that is good but will last a long time. So far I've looked at g&g smg's and Assault rifles but don't know if there any good. Secondly I have a ASG Dan Wesson revolver (4.5mm bb) whilst it's meant too shoot steel bb's if I shot plastic could I use it in airsoft it's around 400 fps with steel bb's so I don't think it's too powerful and wondered if it would make a good sidearm?

  • Does a scope need to be fully on scope rail?

Mounted a scope on my air rifle (a stoeger x20 .22) it's on a dovetail to weaver adapter so if I wanted I could have the scope only an inch on the rail and it's still very solid I'm just not sure it will keep it zeroed in. It's very solid how it's mounted and much more comfortable to shoot. Anyone know if it's worth doing?

  • Fastest tank in the world?

So the world record of the fastest tank in the world is listed as the S2000 scorpion peacekeeper with a top speed of 82 kph but the M18 Hellcat could do 89kph. Surely the world records wrong then? Is it because the M18 is a tank destroyer or something?

  • Should you clean a target rifle?

So I was speaking to some people at a .22 Target shooting club and in short I was told you shouldn't clean a target rifle because it keeps it consistent. But surely the best thing to is keep a rifle consistently clean giving consistent accuracy and a longer lasting rifle. So is it true about not cleaning a target rifle to me it's utter nonsense and that not cleaning will only cause a rifle to fail and become dangerous with accidental discharges and surely if enough carbon and stuff built up in a rifle surely a bolt won't lock properly and end up exploding in your face. So what do you think clean or no clean?

  • .22 vs .177 pellet in an air rifle?

In an accurate air rifle shooting 12 ft/pounds firing a .22 pellet what is the maximum range for taking out a squirrel. I've been looking at .177 springer air rifles but there's a much wider range of rifles in .22. I've been looking at .177 because it's more accurate but at 50 yards could I still hit with enough power to stop a squirrel providing it was a accurate shot. I know people say 'max range is how far you can get a 20mm grouping' but from a purely power point of view could a .22 pellet do it from a springer at that range.

  • Could a .45 winchester magnum necked down to 5.7mm equal a 5.56 in range and velocity?

I know this can't really be answered without testing but I was thinking if it would be possible to have an assualt rifle that fed through through the grip but there aren't any rounds short enough that have enough energy to equal 5.56mm so I thought would it be possible to take a PDW round like 5.7 and stick it in a big necked down case like .45 win mag. I know the mag probably couldn't be double stack but was wondering whether it could work. Would the round need a really long barrel to be effective? I know the powder would take time to burn but if in say a 18in barrel is it possible? Its just PDW rounds are limited to approx 200m at which point assault rifle are more effective so I was thinking of away to get PDW type assault rifles to shoot to 300-400m as good as a AR-15 for example.

  • When Ipod touch 6G comes out will 5G price drop significantly?

I lost my 4G ipod touch :( which I'd had for about year and a half and have decided that I'd like to replace it but upgrade to the at least the 5G model (G is for generation). But given its September-October time when Apple normally release the new iPod I was wondering whether to see if the 6G model comes out, not to get it, but to see if there is a significant price drop in the 5G. So I was wondering first what is the chance of the new Ipod coming out soon. I know the 5G took a while to come out and didn't know if they would repeat this with the 6G and secondly when it does come out will the price drop be significant enough to justify waiting to get the 5G or should I just get the 5G now.

Ideas and opinions? Was there a significant dip in 4G prices when the 5G came out?

  • UK law on offensive weapons in schools?

So I'm 14 and in my free time carry a legal pocket knife for everyday use. Now at schools in the UK as I understand you can't have any pointed or bladed objects. Well I have a small multi tool that's roughly small enough to go on a key ring and I was wondering if I could modify so I could carry it in my pocket with me to school legally for general small tasks. Not as something to have on my desk or something stupid. But say if on my way to school I got a bottle that required a bottle opener I could use my multi tool. Well I've removed the blade which was about 1.25in long and useless any way and I've blunted the 'saw' completely. But still am unsure given the very vague details the law gives on this. Other features of the tool are a small pair of pliers, a bottle opener and a small small screw driver. All these are blunt and have no blade. My main concern is that the saw (which is effectively a series of blunt grooves) looks potentially theaterning. So in is my tool legal to take to school or should I remote the saw, or is it just a pointless idea I should give up on.

  • Children's act? Questions?

Can one parent (A) not allow there children aged 11,13 and 14 from seeing the other parent (B) if B is no danger to the children. Parent A lives with the children. For example if Parent B had arranged to see the children 2-5pm with consent of parent A and this was verified through solicitors. But the children wanted to see B 12-5pm instead and so did parent B but A did not want this, under the children's act can the children go anyway or does this need to be allowed via solicitors. Is it the children's right to go because they can make the descision? What legal rights do the children have in this situation?

  • China vs Taiwan, HK, Japan and South Korea in a war.?

So there's always quite a bit of tension between Taiwan and China in the Communist vs Capatilist arguement and Hong Kong has till 2047 (I think) till it is made Communist. There's also a lot of disagreements over islands with Japan and other countries in Asia as well as ever possible war between North and South Korea. So my question is China and North Korea in a war against Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and the Phillippines. China has nukes and maybe North Korea does as well as a large amount o population that could be conscripted. Whereas Taiwan and the other countries have American support. Japan could theoretically develop nukes in a short time but given there history I doubt they would. Hong Kong could potentially gain British support. But given a possible nuclear world war 3 would Britain or even America intervene. What about the Australians and NZ maybe India. I'm not too sure how it would all kick of maybe a combination o things, Perhaps Chinawould invade Taiwan and fishing and territorial disputes would draw in other countries. Sorry for long question but more I thing about it the more likely it seems. Any thoughts, who would win?

  • .177 vs .22 big or small difference?

So I'm looking into getting an air rifle and right now am interested in a BSA Supersport in .177 or similar rifle however my local store stocks primarily .22 calibre air rifles. I wanted a .177 for the better range and accuracy as I feel I don't actually need the power of a .22. So is the difference of .177 and .22 that great? should I go for the .22 or try and order in a .177 or look some where else. I wouldn't be shooting over 40m.

  • Best air rifle for me?

I'm looking for a air rifle that's under 7lb/3kg which would be capable of 25m target shooting, I would like it to be able to take small animals potentially up to rabbits. What calibre is best i think .177 is more accurate for target shooting but does it have the power of .22 for other shooting. I'd be shooting iron sights and I'm quite small so a preferably light rifle would be nice but still meet my requirements. I'd like it to be >£200 also I've seen weihrauchs but don't which one would best. Any ideas?

  • Rome travelling questions?

Ok so I'm going to Rome on a school trip and I'd really like to visit the Vatican, my hotel is hotel portamaggiore. And the Distance each way to and from the Vatican is 3.5 miles/5.5km now there are quite a few school restrictions and really I wouldn't be allowed to do this but I'd want to see the Vatican (I'm not Christian or anything just whist I'm there kind of thing). So firstly walking fast would take me about 2 hours which I think is to long cause I've got to be quick so teachers don't notice etc. I've seen the ATAC bike share system that looks like I could do but I need to get Smart card etc which seems a bit complicated. What about trains? Any details?

To go anywhere on are own we're meant to be in groups of 4 but that's not really that important. Btw I'm 14 male and healthy. Any suggestions are welcome remember I can't spend a load or anything thanks in advance.
