Do Kindle books have hyper-text links that you can click on to take you to other parts of the book?

For example, do most Kindle books have an index and you can click on a word and it will take you to where that word is used in the book?

The Kindle has a search feature within each book, but unless there is a hyper link in the book there isn't one. Here's an example, I have Robert Pinksy's book Singing School and when I open the book and use the search feature for "sonnet" it has an entry and link for every use of sonnet in the book.

Yes, because that is how linked table of contents work in Kindle books. I also have a Kindle cookbook with a link after each recipe to take you back to the table of contents.

As for what you are asking, I believe you would have to build such an index yourself and create the links yourself and have the whole thing stored in your book. And it would only be able to take the person to a page, not to a word (I think you need to add page markers of some kind).

However - I believe most Kindle models have the ability to search inside the current book for any word.

From the Kindle Paperwhite User Manual

Search button (this is a visual button onscreen):

"Tap this button to bring up the search field and the onscreen keyboard.

Tap to the left of the Search field to display search targets: This Book (not available when

searching from the Home screen), My Items (searches your Cloud items as well as the ones

on this Kindle by title and author), Kindle Store, Dictionary, and Wikipedia. After you make

your selection, tap the Arrow button to the right of the Search bar or the Return key on the

keyboard to perform the search. To exit search, tap the X on the right side of the search bar."

Some of them do. It's up to whoever prepared the ebook - usually the author or someone who works for the publisher. Amazon just sells the file as the publisher gave it to them. The Kindle does have a search facility, which can make up for not having an index, but it's rather slow, at least on mine.

Of course. All Kindle books have index. You can also search text across the whole book, take notes, highlights and bookmark.

    Yes.

Many Kindle eBooks have a table of contents that will hyperlink to that chapter in the book.
