What's your stance on teaching intelligent design in schools?

When there is no tangible form of evidence to support a theory, why should we entertain it with the same level of respect as a theory that has been documented, supported, analysed and agreed upon scientifically?

No. Absolutely not. Any 'theory' that has zero basis in science should not be taught in schools whatsoever, unless it was some kind of 'bible study' elective.

When there is no tangible evidence to support a theory, it is not a theory. At best it is wishful thinking.

Science belongs in science classes; that is the stuff where all the facts and observations are taken into account to formulate a theory and none left out. Intelligent design (creationism with a new PC name) is not science.

But if evidence were forthcoming that ID were supported, faith would no longer be required, as it would be science. Moreover, I have never heard an ID proponent support the idea that Allah or Vishnu is the designer,

If you want to see where society is going, don't look at the schools. Don't look at the politicians.

    Look at the musicians.

They are who the young admire and listen to. The musicians get their mentality from the media - their worldview is shaped by what the advertising industry want them to believe; that they don't have enough, they aren't good enough and aren't cool enough. The privileged few that make it into the music industry then decide that they must be the standard of 'cool'..... after all, they made it there, didn't they?

    Glorifying violence.

    Glorifying prostitution.

    Glorifying excess.

    Glorifying depravity.

And so the vicious circle ensues. Everybody insecure, basing their worth on the heroes of the music industry. So awful. Words have not been invented to describe the destruction they do to the souls of children.

PS. The teachers fear the schoolboard. The schoolboard fears the parents. The parents fear the children and the children don't fear anybody.

I grew up going to school long ago, in the 50's and 60's, and they taught evolution. Didn't matter, I believe in the bible and in Jesus.

If I had children, they would not be in a public school, they would be in a Christian school.

Parents have the right to determine where to let their children go to school and what they hear. If you don't like it, don't send them there.

As long has it is taught in a religion class, I don't mind.

My objection is when they teach it as science.

We can see the effect when religion determines what is taught in the schools by observing the education in islamic countries. Why do you think that they are so far behind us?

So according to you things are not intelligently designed? Explain to us how is it we have planes, trains, automobiles, rockets, math, science, and the many things in this world that require intelligence just to operate them and tell us how it is possible that you could develop them with out intelligence involved?

I suppose farms were already here? People found them and just took over? Oops. They had to learn how to use them? Oops. They didn't have to learn because no intelligence is required?

    Here's your sign!

Are you trying to deny intelligence because you don't have any?

I'd rather they learn to design things intelligently than taught unintelligent dogma.

It shouldn't be taught as fact. Yes, have it in a religious studies class, but that is all until there is actual proof backing it up.

Source(s): Pregnant Atheist who would be horrified if it was taught to my child as scientific fact.

They can teach it in religious education classes as 'something some people believe' if they wish

They just shouldn't teach it in science class

  • They should teach evolution instead.
