Locked out of iPad--need help!?

My daughter accidentally locked herself out of her iPad. As you know if you are familiar with iPad, this could lead to loss of all her stuff on it. The help information tells us to start by backing it up, but we don't know how if we can't get in. We don't want to start over again from ground zero, as she has a lot of pictures, videos, etc., that she really values. I probably have room on my PC for anything that needs to be backed up. I have a lot more memory than I have actually used, and she has only had her iPad a few months.

Thanks so much!

What do we do? This is our first i-device, and we aren't familiar with the Apple stuff at ALL. If you can help, please assume zero knowledge on our part. (As far as I am concerned, computers should do as they are told and shut up about it!)

Update:

I downloaded iTunes to my computer, and it recognizes the iPad, but it wants the password she can't remember!

Alright so. Technical help ( well not really) You are saying there is an unknown pass code that is preventing you from loging in? And if it is, the emergency theft protection ( the timer that locks your ipad) ex 10 min if you don't get pass code right in 3 tries, turn on? If it is a pass code problem, ask your daughter if she set erase data after certain number of failed pass code attempts. If she didnt, then you should be safe, for now.

If it is another issue, that you can't get in, please add additional details, ex. Hat does the screen look like, what did you do to start this, and I will check back :)

    UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Is it the passWORD to your apple ID? or a passCODE to your ipad?

If passWORD (which should not lock you out) you can use iForgot and it will send reset email.

If a number/letter passCODE. and you need it for the iTunes. And you dont remember it.

Here is another way. Plugin your iPad to your PC without iTunes, and it should open up a folder or a window that you can select Open folder to view files. Do that, then COPY AND PASTE all photos onto your desktop. Now all you can do is reset to factory. Sorry. If all doesn't work. Contact apple technic support and maybe go to an Apple store.

    Best of luck!

The solution for forgotten pass code is pretty easy. There are tutorials online. But the easiest way is to back up your ipad.

    1. Open up iTunes in your PC, of you don't have it, download it here.

    2 http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

    3. Open up iTunes and connect you ipad to your computer via USB ( your charger without the converter/big part)

    3. The iTunes should recognize your ipad

    4. Now click the Ipad tab on the near top bar. Don't click the arrow

    5. Now click backup and choose your configuration for the backup.

    Resort your ipad to factory.

    1. Now that you have backed up your ipad, you can restore your ipad.

    2. You should be able to find restore ipad in iTunes for PC.

    3. After you restored it, then install the backup.

If my directions weren't clear (sorry about that) here are some helpful links.

    Locked Out Of Ipad

The only way to lock one self out is to put in a 4 number password and not remember it. I'd suggest keep trying number combinations that she may have picked. Also as the other one suggested, if you have connected it to a computer before, that computer should remember the iPad and you can access the info via the iTunes app. You can then change the password.
