Getting rid of Mildew Stains on grout ?

I moved into and apartment with mildew stains on some of the shower grout. There is no mold or mildew. The shower is clean but I can’t get rid of the stains the mildew left. I have tried a few bleach products, vinegar, baking soda paste, Arm and Hammer “scrub free” tile/grout cleaner and every solution Google could fish up for me (well with in reason) including rubbing bar soap on it.

Does anyone have a good way of getting rid of these stains short of ripping out the tile?

I found this one for you while looking for one that I used that worked (couldn't locate it, but this one looks even easier and has great reviews at Lowe's > Zep Commercial Grout Cleaner and Whitener > Reviews > http://www.lowes.com/pd_369832-531-ZU104632_0__

Walmart, Home Depot, and others have it for maybe $6/7. Here's their website to see where it's available near you > http://www.zepcommercial.com/contact.aspx

Here it is on Amazon for less > http://www.amazon.com/32Oz-Grout-Cleaner-Zu104632-...

Why not do what what I did and just paint the grout? I used regular house paint that I had tinted light gray. I used a color by Behr called "Manhattan Mist" (available at Home Depot). But plain white works, too.

I recommend using semi-gloss paint for a shower. And then paint using an artist's brush -- the kind of brush normally used for watercolors. Or you could use a small sponge brush if you use painter's tape. Painter's tape will keep the paint on the grout only and not on the tile. Just make sure you pull the painter's tape off immediately after applying the paint -- while the paint is still wet. If you allow the paint to dry with the painter's tape still on, you won't be able to remove the painter's tape at all. The best brand of painter's tape is "Frog Tape". It's worth the extra cost.

Believe it or not, painting grout works like a charm. I'm very happy with the result. It looks very natural. And now the grout is as easy to keep clean as the tiles...I just wipe it with a microfiber cloth and water -- that's it. No more scrubbing with a toothbrush.

On the rare occasions when I get a stain I can't remove, I just paint over the stain and voila! No more stain.

    Good luck.

It's tedious, but I paint clorox bleach on the grout lines with a tiny brush. After it bleaches out

    wash it off.
