Trying to find a bible...?

When i was a teenager, my father had a big, brown paperback bible. I know all bibles are big but this was Harry Potter big. It was supposed to be a direct (literal) translation, and had notations where alternate translations were possible and lots of notes. I always thought this was called "The Hebrew Bible", but I cannot find this bible anywhere. I have a friend who is looking for spiritual guidance and I think this bible could help her. Does anyone know where I can find this bible? I want either this bible or something that matched my description of it EXACTLY (except for title and color, I'm flexible with those). Thank you!

Update:

Thanks for the answers so far. A few responses:

To the person that says I can find "The Hebrew Bible" on Amazon, f I could find this on Amazon, I would have purchased it years ago. Provide a link or STFU.

For those of you criticizing religion, I'm looking for a bible, not a religion. I'm apatheist. My friend is a lesbian and there's a direct translation of a verse in Galations that I beleive could help her reconcile her sexuality with her religion. I'm just looking for a book, not your worthless opinion.

For those of you suggesting other books, thank you, but I am looking for this book in partcular as beyond my friend, I would like it for sentimental reasons. Despite his spooky scary religion that small minded atheists don't seem to be able to handle in a mature way, he was a great guy and it would be nice to own something that he once owned, even if it wasn't his copy. So please help me find THIS bible. If you want to have a religious discu

I know of two that you may mean. One is called "The Message" and is just the basic text told in simpler language. It combines some of the verses into one paragraph. I have the new testament version only, but they have one that has both. I think that the version is about the same length as the actual bible (I'm not too sure if it is or not).

Another version of the bible is just the bible with a lot of notes at the bottom. It is also only the new testament version (I'm not sure if they have one for both). It is called the New Testament: recovery version. It is available for free online (and not just an ebook either. The free version is an actual print bible). The New Testament version is available for free on biblesforamerica.com.

If it was a literal translation, then it was what is called a transliteration.

You may be looking for a Hebrew English Transliterated Bible. That's probably the version your father had.

I hope this devoted man finds the perfect Holy Bible he wants. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
