Teens: Do you use believe in using natural remedies to cure things?

I somehow got hives yesterday, not sure how, but they're in a nice cluster on the back of my legs. My sister told me to look up how to get rid of them and I kept getting results like "drink green tea", "eat things with lots of vitamin C", and "take a cold shower/put a cold compress on it to reduce swelling" as ways to get rid of the bumps. So far putting ice and hydrocortisone on them has kept the swelling & itching down, but I'm a little curious to try the green tea remedy and see how that works.

What kind of natural remedies do you use when you're ill, if any?

BQ: Do you drink tea or coffee? What's your favorite kind?

BQ2: How often do you eat breakfast in the morning?

Oh I know for a fact that some natural stuff really, really helps! I put a cinnamon/honey mask on my face a couple times to help with acne and redness and it helped right away. I wouldn't try doing a lot of crazy things like expecting only green tea to work, I would probably do the third thing with a cold compress mixed with the hydrocortisone cream and if that doesn't help the bumps go away then I'd go to a dermatologist and ask what kind of lotions will help ease the leftover bumps without irritating the hives. I'd also start thinking about what you did the other day or what you were around that might've given you hives.

With either type of remedy, you're not gonna see results right away, you might see slower results with natural remedies than with over the counter remedies, but that doesn't mean natural doesn't work better or differently.

BQ: Nope neither haha I'm not a big tea-drinker and I don't even like coffee

BQ2: Everyday! :D I had gluten/dairy free waffles and a bowl of Rice Crispys hehe :)

Yes, I believe that natural remedies can work. I always try to eat a lot of things high in vitamin c if I have a cold. And I use lavender oil for mosquito bites and zits.

BQ: Tea. I like this kind that has lemon flavor.

BQ2: Every day, except when I sleep in until 10 or 11, then I just wait for lunch.

Unless you call slugging down an Ibuprofen and sleeping for 12 hours natural, not really. But then again, just because something comes from nature doesn't mean it's healthy.

But then again again, I've never heard of someone dying of green tea before. Suffering severe damage to the taste buds, probably, but that isn't fatal. Try it if you want, and hold your nose.

BQ: I've only ever drunken iced tea, and that was on a day when I could have drunk anything.

BQ2: Never. My stomach doesn't function until after 11.

It's not when I'm ill, but I use apple cider vinegar and it helps with my acne. I also drink lots of tea when I'm sick, but otherwise I don't really do much else.

I think natural remedies work to some extent on some things for some people, but medicine is necessary once in a while. :3

BQ: I drink both! I like chai tea, pomegranate white tea, green tea, vanilla coffee, breakfast blends, americanos...

BQ: I usually eat it in the summer- school year, not so much.

  • I used to get hives all the time when I was a kid - due to me being allergic to excessive heat.

All you need to do is avoid scratching them, numb it periodically with ice and keep a cool compress on it. I've never tried the green tea theory however it doesn't hurt to try!

If I have a sore throat, I'll drink lemon tea with honey. I don't think there's anything special about it, it's just the nature of drinking something warm and the coating abilities of honey. It seems to help a bit.

BQ: I drink tea, but not coffee. I like this chamomile/mint combo we got.

BQ2: I usually do, unless I wake up at 10 and then I usually just wait until lunch.
