Does my credit get affected if i close one my my credit card accounts?

I have 2 credit cards, one i can make payments on and actally lower the balance.

But then my 2nd one is maxed and keeps going hundreds on dollars over the limit, if i close this account so the interest will stop then i can pay it off will it effect my credit at all?

Some guidance would be nice.

any debt at all will effect your credit if your delinquent or overdue on the payments- if u have a card maxed out and are slowly falling behind you should cancel it and get it paid off before it gets larger your credit will take a hit but it can be fixed as you pay it off...if you don't pay a bill in full it will get reported eventually if you only pay half the bill as a settlement it will still hit your credit as settled in full not payed in full its still better then a debt still owed but not good next if your trying to build your credit do not use credit cards if your a compulsive spender. let me repeat that, do not use credit cards. If you want to build your credit find a bank that is willing to help show them that you have to means to pay off a loan and that you are trying to rebuild your credit. They will give you a micro-loan and keep the money so like they will give you 1000.00 but not really the 1000.00 will stay in an account and they will just pull it out of the account to make your monthly payment then when the 1000.00 is paid off you make 4 monthly payments of like 50 dollars and there you go better credit next and finally if your having problems removing something from your credit do not call the place and harass them there is very little they can do call 18009168800 it is the number to transunion the largest creditor in the nation and file a dispute on whatever is wrongfully on your credit. make sure to use those words "Hi i would like to file a dispute on _____ because..." its paid off or whatever. thats a real number this is real advice use it i realize that credit cards are handy but there evil simply don't use them, don't own them and do not carry them around if you have one only for emergencies instead of carrying it around where your temped to use it right down all of the info on it the number name its on expiration date and security code and leave the actual card at home your less likely to use it if you have to explain to some pimply faced cashier why you don't have the actual card but it will still work in a pinch as ever place that takes them can manually enter in the info and run it that way

You do not want to close an account with a balance on it.

This fouls up the Fico score.

It will show $0 credit limit with a balance.

The interest does NOT stop when you close an account.

If that were true, I would have about $100,000 worth of closed credit card balances.
