The root cause is team spirit and leadership.

Clarke isn't proving to be good in man management and a captain without man management abilities becomes a pseudo leader without real power to make a difference on the field in terms of players' motivation and coordination. There is also a dearth of test-temperament batsmen at the top of the order and a class spinner who can take wickets in test matches by luring and deceiving the batsmen through flight variations and well concealed top-spin or reverse-spin (like Doosra for an off-spinner or googly for the leg-spinner or the chinaman for the left-arm spinner).

As a genral rule, please read the news before asking a question. Both Mickey Arthur and Michael Clarke have stated that they never thought they could win this Ashes series and so they treated t as preparation for the "return" series. You are correct in suggesting that they have forgotten the basics of cricket and have proved that what goes around comes around. They spent a lot of time banking on their star players without training anyone else so when they all retired they got screwed. However, India prepared for their stars' retirement and now they are still the best team in the world. England have just been consistently in the top three no matter what/who.

Every cricket team has bad time periods not only Aussies.I hate the comparing between players but Aus loss the great Ricky,Hussey,Lee recently,it is not a easy task to replace those players soon.Young Aus team need time to reproduce big players.

I don't think there are any issues with Clarkes captaincy.he is a good captain and well talented batsman in Aus team.

They lost ashes its just a test series between 2 sides.Ashes means not all cricket just a old memorable test series.

They seem to be playing so badly that they are almost ashamed to admit they are so useless they cant seem to win a series away from home

If this continues they could rightfully be called minnows like all teams that cant win away against quality opposition should be called.

Then again they can always beat Bangladesh or Zimbabwe and tell the world how good they must be to do that
