Why do you think the bible translators didn't name the book of Acts after it's author...?
Like they did for John and Peter. We know that Luke wrote the book of Acts so why wasn't it called, 2Luke like the others? Just wondering why?

Mainly because The Gospel of Luke - written by the same author - was already named after him. Naturally, they picked a different name for Acts.
It wouldn't have been called "Second Luke" because "First Luke" was a gospel and "Second Luke" was not. You'll notice - for example - that we have
- The Gospel of John
and also
- The First, Second and Third Letters of John
Acts is not only not a gospel; it is also not a letter. It is a different sort of document (historical), and you'll see - if you look - that most of the historical documents in the Bible that are not about a particular person are not named for a particular person.

Because it is the acts that the Apostles performed.IN THE 42nd book of the inspired Scriptures, Luke gives an account covering the life, activity, and ministry of Jesus and his followers up to the time of Jesus’ ascension. The historical record of the 44th book of the Scriptures, Acts of Apostles, continues the history of early Christianity by describing the founding of the congregation as a result of the operation of the holy spirit. It also describes the expansion of the witness, first among the Jews and then to people of all the nations. The greater part of the material in the first 12 chapters covers the activities of Peter, and the remaining 16 chapters, the activities of Paul. Luke had an intimate association with Paul, accompanying him on many of his travels

2 The book is addressed to Theophilus. Since he is referred to as “most excellent,” it is possible that he occupied some official position, or it may simply be an expression of high esteem. (Luke 1:3) The account provides an accurate historical record of the establishment and growth of the Christian congregation. It commences with Jesus’ appearances to his disciples following his resurrection and then records important events of the period from 33 to about 61Â C.E., covering approximately 28 years in all. Therefore, Luke being the writer of Acts did not need to repeat his name since he already had a established his name as a bible writer.

I think it wasn't important who the author was, otherwise we would have had a tradition of naming them like some of David's Psalms.
Wikipedia has some stuff to say about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_the_Apostles
I think that Luke wrote both the Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. But even if I'm wrong, I think it's a pretty good guess that whoever wrote the Gospel according to Luke was the same author of The Acts of the Apostles.

Because it is the Book of "The ACTS of the Apostles''.
The Good News Bible explains that in the introduction :)
''It says that the Acts of The Apostles is a continuation of The Gospel according to Luke. Its chief purpose is to tell how Jesus' early followers, led by the Holy Spirit , spread the Good News about him in Jerusalem, in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.''
That's exactly how its explained in my bible, so there's your answer :D x

This is the title by which one of the Bible books has been called since the second century C.E. It covers primarily the activity of Peter and Paul, rather than that of all the apostles in general; and it provides us with a most reliable and comprehensive history of the spectacular beginning and rapid development of the Christian organization, first among the Jews and then among the Samaritans and the Gentile nations.

many of the later books are penned to a certain church so their names are from those church name locations.
others there are just named after the theme. Acts , Revelation
its a valid question as we do have Peter, James, John, Titus books with their names on them.

The names Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were added on and are not original. The gospels were written by anonymous Greek speaking scribes. "Acts" denoted a recognized genre in the ancient world, "characterizing books that described great deeds of people or of cities."
