Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20th, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

Why can't people do google or yahoo searches for themselves?

I bet 90% or more of the questions on Yahoo Answers involve simple google searches. Are people that lazy? Also when you suggest that to people somebody always call you down on it and says you didn't answer the question. Most of the time these comments come from kids who probably resent their teachers making them do their own research. Too bad yahoo doesn't let you reply when another commenter knocks your question

Update:

>>they are looking for a breadth of answers where the internet is going to funnel toward only a few certain ones.<<

I don't completely agree with that. The Internet can provide a variety of answers also. The trick is in knowing how to word your query and although that isn't always apparent at first, If you can phrase your question coherently on "Answers" you should be able to get a good search after a few tries. The problem with the internet is that anyone can claim to be an "expert" in some field or another. To paraphrase the Bible, by their words you shall know them. I tend to give more weight to a person's opinion if the have a few initials after their name.

What Yahoo Answers needs is a quick synopsis pasted in the main page here that advises people how to search for their own answers first. and to stop this ridiculous "point" system. It so often happens that people get on here that have no real knowledge they are on here mainl

Update 2:

Cut off my last sentence! It so often happens that people get on here that have no real knowledge, they are here mainly to amass points to advance to the next "level"

i saw one good reply, and probably the only legit reason i can think of (besides the person being panicked or befuddled to think clearly enough to google for themselves). they are looking for a breadth of answers where the internet is going to funnel toward only a few certain ones.

Yeah, allot of the questions, I Google and just copy& paste into the Yahoo answers question. I'm basically using Google FOR them.
