Do Electronic EBT Machines Have Any (Negative) Effect On CD's Or DVDs ?

I am just wondering. I sometimes set my newly purchased CD's & or newly purchased DVDs right next to those alternative debit card swiping little box sized EBT machines at & on the front counter of the store table just as I am wanting to purchase the CD's or DVDs & I wonder if the CD's will be effected by those EBT machines in a negative way if the CD's or DVDs are too close to the EBT machine. Any damage to the CD's or DVDs at all ? Just asking. Thanks everyone.

This isn't very likely at all unless they are placed in close proximity to a very warm / hot surface for a significant time. You see, CD s and DVD s are actually an optical media. The layer sealed in the clear plastic disk is actually reflective to light and either it is pitted or not in each space to represent binary data. Inside the drive(s) for such media a motor spins the disk at a certain speed during read operations and an optically aligned laser shines onto the reflective layer. As it rotates, optical receiver(s) pick up and turn the reflections into binary electrical signals that can be read, manipulated or stored within the device or transmitted as is to other devices capable of those functions.

Because of this scheme, they are not subject to EMF (radio waves, stray magnetic fields, etc.) and will be unaffected by light sources such as laser price scanners, laser pointers, electronic flashes, etc. unless they are heated to the point of visible deformation. Physical damage from scratches, scrapes, bending and cracking affect the reflection of light and so can affect the playback. So can extraneous dirt on the surface, but it is easily removed with soap and water and drying with a lint free cloth.

I hope that this will help you understand the CD s and DVD s as storage media.

Absolutely not. No damage at all. No effect at all, in fact.

Nor by setting on top of loudspeakers, TV sets, or anything else... unless the device is very very warm and damages the disc that way.
