What is the significance of "death" in 1 Corinthians 15:26 ("The last enemy...?

that shall be destroyed is death."

Is death merely the absence of life as we know it? Or is death indicative of life here in the dreamt illusion, a living death spent in separation consciousness? If the latter, then to overcome death, as the verse indicates, would be to awaken from the dream?

Waking from the dream is not death, it is just the realization that separation never existed to begin with.

But you knew that didn't you?

Rather than being like a friend welcoming us to a better life, death is called “the last enemy,” according to the Bible, for it halts all of our activity. (1 Corinthians 15:26) Death is the opposite of life.

For millions of humans, death is like a sleep from which they will awaken. Jesus said: “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his [that is, Jesus’] voice and come out.” (John 5:28, 29)

Providing us with further good news, the Bible states: “As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.” (1 Corinthians 15:26) Never again will grief-stricken people have to go to a cemetery to bury a loved one. The Bible says: “Death will be no more.” (Revelation 21:4)

Compare this verse with Revelation. 20:14; 21:4.

    Revelation 20:14

And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

    Revelation 21:4

And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death will be no more, nor will there be sorrow or crying or pain anymore; for the former things have passed away.

Eventually death will be dealt with and there will be no more death.

We will make it as simple as we can. Until Christ, death reigned among alll men for all died. Then Christ himself died to destroy death - to put death to death as it were.

And he did - BUT ONLY FOR HIS FAITHFUL WHO NEVER DIE!

HE died so that WE no longer have to!!!!

Jhn 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Jhn 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Here "hell" actually means grave. Christ permanently ended death and the grave

1Cr 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

    You are thinking of Shelley.

    No, not so.

Death is exactly what Aquinas says about the essence of Heaven, we must KNOW that it never ends for it to be true happiness..

"Peace, peace! he is not dead, he doth not sleep -- he hath awakened from the dream of life -- 'Tis we, who lost in stormy visions, keep with phantoms an unprofitable strife." - Shelley, Percy Bysshe - See more at: http://quotationsbook.com/quote/4225/#sthash.cRsqm...

It would seem that it is referring to the endless cycle of birth and death. Once one obtains Supreme Wisdom that cycle ends for that person. Life as we know it is quite possibly not life as we know it but rather a veil over what we really know. So, as you say, our separation could be looked on as a living death which is endless until we wake up.

A custom (Death) is the enemy and one in so of it is Death, but if we as Earthly surpass it, as life, who can call it death? But nevertheless it will be total removed!

    (26) And the last enemy death {A custom} shall be destroyed.

    Aramaic bible:

    (20) But now The Messiah is risen from among the dead and is the first fruits of those who sleep. (21) Just as by a man death came, in this way also >by a man<> the dead come to life. (22) For just as by Adam all people die, in this way also by The Messiah they all live; (23) Each person in his order; The Messiah was the first fruits; after this, those who are >The Messia↔h's<> at his arrival<.

    (24) And then the end will come,

when he will deliver The Kingdom to God The Father,

when he will destroy every Ruler and every Authority and all Powers.

    (25) For he is going to reign until all his enemies will be set under his feet, (26) And the last enemy death shall be destroyed.

    (27) For he brought all things to submission under his feet. But when it says, “All things are subjected to him”, it is understood that it >excludes him<x {A custom } who subjected all things to him (life). (28) And when all is subjected to him (life), then the Son shall be subject to him (spirit and truth) who subjected all things to him, that God might be all in all. { “ For my yoke is pleasa↔nt (who we are) and my burde↔n is light.” ]

    (29) Otherwise, what shall those do who are baptized for the sake of the dead (A custom), if the dead do not live again {life}? Why are they baptized for the sake of the dead? (30) And why are we living in peril every hour? (31) I swear by your pride, my brethren, which I have in our Lord Yeshua The Messiah, that I die every day. (32) And if, as a citi↔zen of the people, I was cast to wild beasts in Ephesaus, what have I gained if the dead do not rise? Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. (33) Be not deceived, evil discourse { A custom } corrupts pleasa↔nt minds {who we are}. (34) Righteously awaken your hearts and do not sin, for there are some in whom the knowledge of God does not exist. I say that to your shame. {even in this place a man can get caught up in sin and not even know it}
