It is a secret but I'll tell you if you promise not to say.
There is a war already over there. A civil war (Relations fighting each other, as they have been on and off since 600AD)
The President of that country Bashar Al Assad, is friends with Russia.
The USA wants to remove the President and put someone else in charge who likes America best.
The US was hoping that the civil war would do it for them but the 'Rebels' are useless.
The USA can't really intervene unless chemical weapons are used because they are banned.
If the Syrian President uses them, then the USA cannot stand idly by when a ban is broken and must send in missiles to warn him not to do it again.
If he does it again, then you wait and see what the USA will do next.
If the 'Rebels' are found to have broken the ban, then the USA won't intevene in a civil war.

The US is NOT starting a war with Syria. A few missiles launches from out at sea on military targets does not amount to war. Much the same was done to Libya a couple of years ago with Britains help, and that didn't lead to war.
The real reason they want to try and prevent the continued use of chemical weapons is exactly the one Barack has given.

They had made a promise before to take action if chemical weapons were used.
They can't back down now, it would mean USA are not to be taken serious because they broke their promise.
This way USA still remains strong and serious in our eyes all over the world.
That's one logical reason
