Trying to make an all-water Pokemon team. Suggestions?

Water is definitely my favorite type, and I think it would be nice and challenging to try and work with an all water team.

But besides Vaporeon, I really don't know what others I would take.

The problem with pulling together a one-type team is that they all will have similar moves (kind of like Misty, who seems to only have taught her staryu and starmie 'water pulse' x_x).

Some notes: It will be either a 4th gen or a 5th gen team. I know that there are many pokemon who gain additional abilities, there are new moves, and of course the new pokemon in 5th gen, but if you suggest 5th gen stuff, try to put an asterisk next to it (eg. Politoed - ability: drizzle*)

Also don't use Ludicolo, I really don't like him especially after having to suffer him on the tv show when Brock had one.

I like vaporeon, poliwrath, octillery, squirtle, feraligatr, kingler, starmie, marshtomp, milotic, crawdaunt, milotic, clamperl, kabutops, carracosta, omastar, manaphy, milotic, dewgong, sharpedo, sealeo, and a bunch of others.

Hell, if the pokemon looks like a water type I'll take it. Or if it's like Rampardos who can learn surf and aqua tail, ok, maybe.

I eagerly await your suggestions and movesets - help is really appreciated.

Update:

You don't HAVE to put a moveset, if it's a good team I'll look it up on smogon to see if it works well.

I'm not a huge competitive battler, so stuff like spikes and rapid spin aren't necessary - if I decide to make it competitive, I'll teach them later.

    A 5th gen mono-water team

-Drizzle Politoed*, for obvious reasons of adding 50% to your STAB moves

-Keldeo*, Probably the most effective water type for taking on Ferrothorn

-Regenerator Slowbro*, a reliable physical tank that's easy to keep alive.

-Suicune, or Crocune, more specifically with the set, as its great for a late game sweep.

-Gyarados, a generally good pokemon that can late game sweep as well.

-Swampert, a pokemon that can swap into electric moves for you.

    a 4th gen mono-water team

-Milotic, a good general tank that is fairly easy to keep alive

-Suicune, again, a good tank and late game sweeper.

-Swampert, again something to swap into electric moves.

-Starmie, a solid revenge killer with impeccable coverage

-Kingdra, simply a pokemon that can easily take hits from things with electric/grass coverage

-Empoleon, a pokemon that can fill a lot of roles depending on what the team needs.

I LOVE having an all water team. So since you're trying to go all water, you're going to want to try and make a team with good type coverage from their secondary types.

    If it's Gen 4, I'd suggest:

Swampert (water/ground) - this way you can have total protection against electric types which could possibly be devastating to your team.

Poliwrath (water/fighting) - I used him once when I played through LeafGreen with only a team of three and he had a very nice move pool which would prove useful

Starmie (water/psychic) - Starmie has good base stats and the psychic type moves will be a big help

Empoleon (water/steel) - Defensively, Empoleon is going to be your tank. He's resistant to dragon type attacks and, as of Generation 4, has the second highest number of type resistances behind the Magnimite family

Walrein (water/ice) - This is going to be your best bet against grass types, unless you want to go with a water/flying type (but personally, I don't like any of those)

Vaporeon (water) - he's one of my favorites too.

I'm not sure how this team will do COMPETITIVELY, but I know that Starmie, Swampert, and Vaporeon are OU for Generation 4 competitive battles. Swampert lost his edge in Generation 5, but he's still my favorite.

:D I like that you chose Vaporeon! Anyways, I'm here to help! You asked for it, and you got a Pokemaniac! So, let's get started!

Empoleon or Samourott- Choose either as your starter depending on whether you are playing a gen 4 or 5 game.

Vaporeon- Can learn a variety of moves, from ice to water to dark and normal.

Milotic- Very powerful, and can learn dragon-type moves as well as water and normal-types.

Carracosta- He has good defense and covers the rock-type as well as water, normal and dark.

Lanturn- Because ALL of your Pokemon are water-type, you can send out Lanturn and have his ability Volt-Absorb turn all that harmful electricity into HP for himself. He can have electric, water, normal, and even the bug-type move Signal Beam.

Cloyster- Has AMAZING defense, and can learn those ice-type moves you need to take out those grass-types (though most ice-type moves he learns are through TM)!

I wish you luck my friend, and I hope I helped you in your Pokemon journey!

(You might have to choose a gen 5 game cause Carracosta is gen 5.... Unless you'd like to replace him with Kabutops, because he is good too. He even learns a grass-type move!)

Source(s): Years of Pokemon... I've played every region so far, and I can't wait for gen 6.
  • Which game?

My all-water Volt White team (it floats depending on situation, but here's what I have had before):

Samurott (water/fighting in Volt White) - always

    Empoleon - always

Swampert - when expecting electric attacks

    Lanturn - usually

Masquerain (bug/water in Volt White) when expecting grass attacks

Carracosta - about 1/2, depending on if I want atk.

Corsola - about 1/2, depending on if I want def. (toxic/protect/heal/dive strategy)

    Milotic - usually

Pelipper - 1/2, need as flying

Swanna - 1/2, need as flying

    Tentacruel - sometimes, special wall

Sharpedo - often, physical glass cannon

Octillery - sometimes, special glass cannon with diverse moves (signal beam, ice beam)

I let my team float to meet whatever needs I have. For example, my Lanturn has Water Absorb, so in double/triple battles I put it next to Swampert and use discharge and have Swampert use surf. Add in Carracosta with Shell Smash and it's a perfect combo against Skyla, whose gym battle is a triple battle in Volt White (opens with Braviary, Skarmory and Mandibuzz, with Archeops, Gliscor and Swanna out next. Make sure Gliscor doesn't end up next to Lanturn and you're golden).
