Im currently a US citizen. Will I be allowed to work until Ive been granted my UK citizenship?

Im to be married to a UK citizen soon and we intend to live in the UK. Right now I live in the US. Can I move there, apply for my citizenship and work there while Im waiting for it to come through in 5 years time? Thanks

You will need to apply for a spouse visa to be able to live in the UK.

You will need to provide evidence that you have met, a marriage has taken place and that it is a genuine relationship.

You will need to show that your UK spouse is earning at least £18,600 and that s/he has been earning at that level for at least six months.

You will need to show that your UK spouse can adequately accommodate you in the UK.

You can get a priority service for the visa for an extra $300. This usually gets you a decision within 24 hours.

A spouse visa allows you to work.

Your initial visa will be for 33 months and you will need to renew it for a further 30 months to take you to the end of the five year probationary period.

    Here's the official site:

Here's a really good site with great info on documentation.

At this point you can apply for indefinite leave to remain. This frees you from immigration control. You will have to take a Knowledge of Life in the UK test. You must have a clean record, both criminal and tax.

As you are married to a UK citizen you can apply for citizenship as soon as you acquire ILR.

No, you will need a spouse visa to be able to work in the UK once you are married

My advice to you is to RESEARCH this in the right places before you marry so you know you did things the correct way to achieve your goal.

This is not an official UK visa site.

Like a Brit living in the USA citizenship is a LONG way down the road..........go to the UKBA web site, hopefully they earn enough to be able to sponsor you in.............
